someonecanbme: that's one of the stupidest responses I've ever read. Most civil war historians would admit that Grant isn't as highly regarded as he should be and that his victories at Vicksburg, and Forts Henry and Donelson split the Confederacy in two.

I don't know , this nation owes a debt of gratitude to Grant for three reasons
1) His generalship during the Civil War
2)the way he handled the surrender at Appomatox, how increibly civil
3) The way he carried out Lincolns post war vision when he was President
You're right almost nobody visits Grants Tomb -122nd Street and Riverside Drive NYC

Let's see. He is on the $50 bill so that's some respect. However, many military historians regard him as butcher due to the war of attrition he waged in an effort to simply exhaust the South. I'm not military historian, but the picture that's been painted isn't exactly one of a brillant tactician or strategist. And he really wasn't the best president.

And he's not even there. The sarcophagus cracked, he was moved out and never came back.

As far as being president, he trusted others and he got screwed in the process. Much like Harding, what good Grant may have done is overshadowed by the graft and corruption that bedeviled his administration.

Well, he is on the $50 dollar bill, so in that sense you could say he has a measure of respect. He did defeat the Confederacy, and that is what he is most remembered as having accomplished.
