wash when you can, a weak bleach solution will also help. biggest threat is bacteria from your mouth. you can mix 1 part bleach to 10 parts water and rinse vigourously with cap on. save some to clean both cap and the pour spout. then rinse with clean water and shake well and rinse cap and fill spout before refilling.

I would wash them well with each use. There was an item on tv not too long ago that said you shouldn't reuse Aquafina or Avian etc bottles without thoroughly cleaning first. Not worth getting sick. Just pop 'em in the washer disher!

As long as you stick it in the dishwasher every night, you're okay...otherwise it's bacteria city! Don't use the ones with the ridges in the sides, either.
