not even towards a savings account or anything benefiting them

Depends on what condition the family is in. If they are trying to keep from going under that means that everyone in the family would go under so everyone that works puts money towards saving the family. Might seem hard at the time but its a lesson they will never forget. m

I wouldn't think so unless they really needed the money to help pay bills. You didn't say how old you are. A lot of parents go through hard times and need extra money. Remember, you have a roof over your head, clothes on your back, and food on the table. You are probably contributing to all of these things. I don't know where you work but you might try asking your boss to keep out some of your money to go into a bank for a Christmas fund. Or, have a part of your check put in the bank in a savings account in just your name. Just a few dollars per week would add up soon. Try to talk to a school counselor if you are in school, or to your pastor about the situation. I hope this helps.

In general, the idea appears to be wrong, but you can't really say that it's not benefiting you if you are living under their roof, wearing the clothes they provide, and eating the food that they buy. I'd guess that you're not earning enough to live on your own.

However, unless they really need your income to put food on the table, it does feel wrong. Since you can't really provide enough details in this forum, I would suggest that you talk to a trusted adult outside of your family - teacher, clergy, guidance counselor, coach, etc., and ask them if they think the situation is fair.

If you are no longer in school, then you need to talk to them about allowing you to save your own money so that you can get a place of your own.

Bottom line, the paycheck comes in your name, and they have no legal right to the money. However, they also don't have to drive you to work, buy you the clothes you want, buy you any special foods you like, etc. All they are legally required to do is provide food, clothing, and shelter, so don't start a war you can't win.

No it's not fair. If I were in the situation, I owuld check with a local bank to see if I could set up some sort of account, depending on your age. If not try another adult you know to see if they can cash your checks for you and go spend the cash. Depending on where you work, some places will cash the check for you.

If all else fails, quit your job. If your not getting to spend the money, then why work.

yes it may be unfair to take the whole check. But to instill responsibility it may be a good idea to have the child pay towards a bill like a phone or something. But definitely something should go towards saving. But who knows maybe that's what the parents are doing and the child doesn't know and every time he/she needs something the parents use their money to pay for it.

Well, is it fair for companies to make a profit off their workers and then split that profit into dividends for rich investors. Yeah sure the employee gets a check, but is more like a bribe to keep the revolution down and the workers content...

Is it fair for children to make parents work and then take their paycheck for themselves? Not even toward retirement or anything benefitting them? Your damn skippy.

Fair, no. Unfortunately, there's not a lot the child can do, except maybe have the money put into a trust account. That should keep it safe if designed properly, but you'd have to talk to a local lawyer about that.

No it is not! That reminds me of the Macaulay Culkin incident, when his parents were spending his hard earned money and giving him little to show.

I would put aside 70% of the money in an account for my child and the rest goes toward the home and expenses.

well no!!!!!!!!! but is ok for a parent to take it and put it in the back for them . tell them that if u need anything at the end of the week u will give some to them. If your kids are older yes they should pay rent to u. or help u a little bet . NO question because u are still taking care of them.
