In temporal fellowship, or spirituality, the believers soul is filled with, or controlled by the Holy Spirit. Sin takes the believer out of fellowship and into carnality. In carnality the sin nature controls the soul. No believer can be partially spiritual and partially carnal. They are mutually exclusive states.

Your thoughts?

Yes they are in opposition with another. That is why a man must be spiritually born of God. It is like a blank page, a clean slate, little by little stain will be put on the page. But through repentence and the atoning blood of Christ it can be removed. They can both exist and do exist at the same time. The Holy Ghost cannot remain in sin. The stains form holes for the Holy Spirit to leave.

The bible says that we are to renew our mind. At the moment of repentance, we are "born again". The second birth is not much different from the first birth. You must learn the new way of living and doing things. You will experience some growing pains. You will see people in whole new light. Example, the things we use to do we will no longer want to do them. As you read God's Word, a change will come in your life. The Holy Spirit is very real and a part of His job is to bring all things to your rememberance (the Word that you have read and stored in your heart. He will help you remember it when you need it most.)

So yes it is possible. BUT at some point in a person's walk with God that they can put the carnal things behind them.

Hope it helps.

Nice premise, wrong question.....
We are all spiritual, with out spirit you can not have a soul. To choose to not follow the spiritual path or the little voice within you, is to follow a harder path. You will eventually have to follow that path, it just takes time for you to be beaten down and recognize it. We are all tested. Carnality/being alive, is a special gift that is given to those who did not participate in the big war (God won and satan was cast down - we were the non participants). We now have to decide on earth how we are going to live and make choices. Christ was given to us to forgive us of our carnal flaws. We all flaw so we need to have a way to be forgiven and progress. One of the greatest tests is not for Christ to forgive us, but for us to forgive ourselves. Belivers can be partially carnal and spiritual and Christ allows us to do that and be forgiven.

Temporal blessings, do you know what those are and how they are conveyed? Covenants like marriage, do you know how they are made and honored? Combining the temporal (which is to say carnal) and the spiritual (which is to say a belief in a higher authority or power) is the trick.

Perhaps you are right. But, I suppose that our carnal nature has its purpose. "It is in my weaknesses that I am made strong". This does not mean that we should deliberately keep on sinning, but when we come to an awareness of our sins, repent and ask for God's forgiveness, and simultaneously come to an awareness of God's love for us, thus accepting God in our lives, I also believe that this is a sign of the Holy Spirit at work in us.

Being filled with the Holy Spirit and being "controlled" by it are very different ideas.

You cannot be "controlled" by the Holy Spirit, you have your God-given free will.

When you use that free will to sin, you fall from God's grace. That doesn't mean that his Spirit departs you, or that he stops loving you. Merely that you are not in as holy a place as you could be or should be. Confession and contrition bring us back into that grace.

in the parable of the boy who wanted his inheirtance and left home. He partied and lived the good life till all his money was gone. Then he was hungry and ate the husk from the pigs pen. This man was in fellowship with his Father till he left. Once you let sin back in your life you cant have fellowship with the Lord till you get things right. Just like the parable of the lost son. When he was tired of his sin he came back home to his Father, and his Father recieved him back into the fold.

its by grace that we remain in the love of Christ, by his forgiveness that we allow our hearts not to condemn us. By his mercy that we are taught and no judged, and redeemed from the judgment that leaving his protection brings.
