Ok. I found this nice looking pit bull. I wanna keep it but my mother is afride that it will hurt my siblings. I don't think that she vicious. But she has scars that show that she has been in a fight. I can tell that no one wanted the dog because they lefted it tied up on a fence. She is still young but not quite a puppy. SHould I take her to a shelter or try and keep her. I you think you know a nice person that might want to buy her, please contact me by email.

The first thing you should have done was bring her to your local animal shelter. The dog is not yours unless nobody claims her. She may very well belong to some little boy or girl who is missing her very much. The shelter will hold onto the dog for a certain length of time to locate her guardians and to assess whether or not she's adoptable or if she harbors aggressive tendancies. If after the alloted amount of time passes, if she is seen by the 'professionals' as being a good family dog and nobody claims her, she will be put up for adoption and then you and your mother can adopt her or maybe find another dog more suitable for your family. I applaud you for taking the dog off the street and wanting to give her a good home despite her breed. It's nice to know that there are still people out there who don't look at the Pit Bull as a killing machine. I've had many Pit Bulls in my life and they've all been gentle, loving pets. And I've known Labs (a normally friendly breed), who would bite your hand off if you got too close - it's all in how they're raised my friend....there's no such thing as a bad dog, only bad guardians.

I would recommend looking for a local breeder in your area or a rescue group. Just because there are scars does not mean the dog is mean. In fact it could actually mean the opposite. This is why, anyone who fights Pits does so for money and bragging rights, therefore if that dog was on a fence tied up she must not be to good or will not fight at all. THere have been cases of Pits that won't fight or are not good at it and want to quit, they are called cures. So do not condemn her because of something you don't know, be causious but have someone who test dogs temperments help you test her's. a local animal shelter may have someone who can test her for you. If you keep her it is a huge responsibility and if you have younger siblings and your mom is against it and you are in her home you may have to give her away but like I said do not condemn her just yet. she could be a victim in this as well.

Scars mean little.. If the poor doggie has been lost for a long timem, it would have gotten into fights with other strays and there would have been resulting scars.

As a great favor to the REAL owner of the pit bull, I would put an ad in the newspaper (it is free) to try to find the owner.

If you wanted a dog and your mother/father approves, it would be a nice dog to keep and bring it up properly.. BUt.. To reiterate, as a favor to probably some other child who lost the dog, you should put an ad in the paper because some little child might be crying that she/he lost their beloved pet.

It realy depends on how old you siblings are if they are very young it would be best to take the dog to a shelter. I am a big dog love and never want to see some thing bad happen to them.

Pit bulls are knowen for fighting but I have in the past seen some very fendly pit bulls. So not all are bad just some of them.

Oh yeah and to the person that said shoot it. Keep your opions to your self in that respect!

Many localities have restrictions against keeping pit bulls. Try to find a no-kill shelter that will find this dog a good home. I would not try to find the dog an owner over the Internet, because you will have no way of knowing that this is a good person. You cannot keep the dog, because your mother has already said "no".

I've owned 2 pit bulls in my life, I have a blue nose right now. It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that pits get socialized to other dogs and to humans at a young age, but if this dog was tied outside it's whole life, I wouldn't keep it & risk it harming or possibly killing someone.

The sad truth is that MANY, IF NOT MOST pit bull owners are careless in their care, and only buy them to show off, (i.e gangstas in the ghetto) pit bulls can be wonderful, loving, and very protective of your family. But take it to a vet. have it checked for disease, & the vet can judge it's disposition & tell you if it's been fighting, but do not put your family in danger if it is unstable! IF YOU DECIDE TO KEEP, MAKE SURE IT IS SPAYED OR NEUTERED!!

You could keep it but keep a very close eye it when it is around anyone. You might even want to take it to the vet to make sure that it is nice and is okay. If she has scars she might have something wrong with her..infection or something. Not all pit bulls are vicious. You just have to train them not to be. Be very careful and get her to a vet to be checked.

Personlay, I don't like Pits. But I have had a stray one come to my house before. She was solid red and I had gotton one of her puppies before. Whe had to give the puppy away, but I knew that was the mom. Same collar and everything. She was beat, and had scars on her, I tried to feed her.
Really, pits can be nice dogs, depends on the trainer and owenr though. If you have another dog, see how she acts with it. If she has been fought then she will attake the dog. Please don't take her to the pound, she'll be put down chances are as soon as you leave.
wish I could take her, good luck!!!!

Be safe, not sorry. A stray pit with unknown background and scars is too much of a risk. If you do decide to keep it, at least take it to the local shelter for evaluation. They have ways of testing how aggressive it is.

I say try and keep her because I would not put her in a shelter I think that is a little cruel because if someone does not adopt her she will be put to sleep. Try and keep her, if she is mean to your siblings and it does not work out. Try putting her in the free adds of the newspaper and maybe someone will take her into a good home.
Note: If you do keep him keep an eye on him and your siblings
