Sounds like the loss would not be anything to great. You seem better off without him. The rims were a gift, not an investment in case he lost his job. Whats next, repayment for dates when other bills come due? Maybe a friendship can develop when he grows up a little.

Did you agree ahead of time to pay him back or were they a gift?
If it was an unsolicited gift, you don't owe him jack. But let him know he can feel free to come over and polish the rims as often as he wants.
If you agreed to pay him back before the split, do the right thing and pay him back so he can move on and quit prolonging your agony.

Don't repay. He gave them to you as a gift. I personally think it's wrong of him to ask for you to repay him. If he wants to be that way, tell him you already paid him back every month when you paid all the bills by yourself and by your calculations, he owes you. As far as the friendship is concerned sweetie, I hate to break it to ya, but if he was concerned with the friendship, he would have never asked you for repayment for a gift. Good luck!

Don't pay him back. If you loose a friendship over something material like that then chances are you're better off without him. You don't owe him anything. And if he tries to come back to you just remember that he walked out on you once and he can do it again so think before you take him back.

What a total cad this guy is! He buys you a gift and mooches off you for everything else. A gift is a gift, sorry about his bad luck, but he gave those rims to you and they are yours to do with as you wish. He walked out, and he never paid you for any of the bills. I say let his "mommy" deal with him. Good luck and I hope the next man you meet treats you wonderfully.

Were the rims a gift? Given for a birthday or holiday present? If not, did you say you'd pay him back or was there an understanding that it was for repayment for his sorry, lazy a$$ living off you like a parasite? If it was a loan, pay him; if not, too bad, so sad and who cares if he's gone...you can do much better!

Do you really want a friendship or any kind of relationship with this man? If he continue to harrass you about the rims give'em back and tell him to shove them up his a**. Otherwise, keep'em and enjoy what little contribution this freeloader made.

This is how I look at it. He moved out. You don't owe him anything. It sounds to me like you gave him too much as it is. Enough is enough. He probably did you a favour by moving out.

How long did he live with you and how much were the rims, I'd say don't pay.
