Put the dog in a crate.
Or keep the dog in your bedroom.
Or buy (or make) the plastic mats with bumps on them that the pet stores sell.
Or turn the cushions up on their sides.

Do you crate him in the day time, like while working? If not crate train him for nights. It would not be fair to have him in a crate day and night. You can train him to stay off furniture. Take your dog off the furniture and say "Off!" Teach your dog early on that you do not favor her/him sitting on the furniture.
2. Be consistent. It's important that you don't allow your dog to jump up on furniture one day and then punish her the next time she jumps on the couch.
3. Try not to leave food on the countertops and tables. These are temptations that a dog in training cannot resist.
4. Limit your dogs roaming area to places that don't have furniture with nesting qualities if your dog jumps on furniture while you're gone.
5. You can have one old chair that can be the dogs chair. I have an old recliner that is now the dogs chair. He is allowed there and on no other furniture. They do like a comfortable seat too you know.
6. Consult a pet behaviorist if the behavior persists.

You have to train them during the day. At night you can put things that will startle them if they go up on the furniture like a piece of foil or a can filled with marbles. There are commercial sprays that are supposed to make pets avoid the area they are sprayed on, but make sure you read and follow the directions exactly. If all else fails, kennel the dog at night in a cage large enough to fit him. Good luck.

They make a Scat Matt you plug it in and it will give a light shock if the dog or cat jumps up on it.
Or they make mouse traps that have a large flapper on them that you can set if the dog jumps bu it it will set the trap off and make a lound noise to scare the dog away from it.
Or crate the dog at night that way you know exactely where he is.

'dog of the furniture'? Is he a special royal dog? Hmm..I would try to give him royal food, so that the 'dog of the furniture' won't go away. He's probably special! hehe

Crate him at night and when your not there. And when you are there don't ever let him up on the couch if you don't want him there. If he makes it there once and you don't correct it, its a fight that will never end.

raise them right the first time and you wouldn't have the problem now. You have to be sturn when they are puppies & use simple commands but use them often - no bite, no bark, no lick, stay, down, good boy/girl, sit, etc....
