Some debt, huh? If Jesus were to TRULY pay our debt, then he would have to spend eternity in hell, which is the punishment that we are supposed to receive...and then, we would never have to go to hell at all, because he did it for us! That is the point behind taking someone else's punishment. As it is, Jesus hardly had to suffer at all. As God, he spent forever in heaven before Earth was created. He came to Earth for a few decades, suffered a bit of a beating and a few hours nailed to a cross, then went back up to heaven to live out the rest of forever in eternal bliss. What the hell kind of punishment is that? What's a day or two of misery compared to eternity? Nothing, that's what! There are abused children who suffer worse than that, for years and years, and they don't have any hope of going to heaven to be with angels and cherubim any time soon. The Jews in the Holocaust suffered WAY worse than anything Jesus went through, but I don't pretend that their suffering saves my soul from hellfire. It's a good thing Christians don't think very thoroughly about their doctrines, or they might abandon their faith altogether. Oh, wait, that would be a GOOD thing.

I can't tell you what an awesome question this truly is. You are absolutely so right. There's just no response you could possibly have. It's kinda brutal in a way. I like it. Thanks for making my brain a better place to live. The point here is that Jesus wasn't human.( so the Christians claim) He was a mixture of 3 different things. Humans are mixtures but they only add up to one thing( a human.) That means Jesus didn't prove ****. If he was supernatural it means he wasn't human, and that means that actually no human has ever risen from the dead. Either Jesus was all human and this religion is crap, or Jesus wasn't human at all which still makes this religion crap.

Hello,
It was the unselfish act, from a highjer being that paid the debt of the world sins, but we have also to repent if some people don't repent how can they be saved ?
Jesus rose from the death, and defeated death. Our Lord Jesus is the way, the only way.
Take care & God bless

It was the resurrection part from the dead that clinched it ... considering animal sacrifices that had been used in the past (for sin offerings) had remained fairly dead YET the ritual continued shows staying dead doesn't help... resurrection gives hope ...
1 Peter 1:3,4
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

That's not according to "Christian doctrine"; it's according to a particular Christian doctrine -- the Anselmian doctrine of the atonement. The majority of non-fundamentalist Christians don't accept this theology anymore, and would describe Jesus' salvific efficacy in terms which don't involve medieval notions of offense, guilt, and retribution. Even at the time it was formulated, this doctrine had its critics -- namely Abelard. If you want a good overview of atonement doctrines, have a look at the book "Christus Victor" by Gustaf Aulen, or "The Nonviolent Atonement" by Denny Weaver.

If Jesus had come back to life and lived another 30 years on earth and then died a natural death our debt would not be paid, but after rising from the dead he ascended into heaven and sent the Holy Spirit to dwell in us and among us.

I am not very knowledgable on doctrine, but my understanding is that he did die. When he rose it was in a spiritual form. His body was sacrificed under much pain and torture, it was his shed blood that is meant to wash away our sins and save us from damnation.
That is what my understanding is. Unfortunately, I feel that we aren't getting the whole story as many of the original gospels were not included in the 'accepted' bible of today.

Yes, the debt remains paid forever. By dying unjustly (He was not guilty) for sin the debt was paid. By coming back to life it means that death can no longer hold us in the grave. Jesus has defeated sin and death. Death will capture us all, but through resurrection we will all be set free.

The fact that Jesus DID die and rose from the dead means Jesus CONQUERED death and therefore we now have the gift of eternal life through him. So our debt is paid through his sacrifice.

Wow, is this the logic you used in everyday life?
You are missing one important fact. Let's use your TV analogy.
If Adam was given a TV on the basis that he use it properly, and he fails to do so, Adam owes the store (Father) a TV. So, there is a debt. Jesus dying is equivalent to using the TV properly. As a result, we are free.
