My b/f and I are planning our wedding for next year, he is really keen on having a medieval style feast, what do you guys think? Would you enjoy going to a wedding like this or do you think it too strange? I would not expect the guests to dress up in costume or anything like that, it is too expensive! Do you have any ideas how to carry this theme through the day apart from fancy dress? I feel it is important for him to have the things he wants for the day as it is his day as well as mine and I don't think it should be all the brides responsibility to make all the plans, I am just interested in your views.

It sounds like a blast. I actually did medieval recreation for two decades and the possibilities of what you guys could do with it are endless. I suggest you contact someone from The Society for Creative Anachronism ... a very large and well respected re-creationist group that probably has a chapter near you. You will find it filled with nice and extremely knowledgeable people who love to share what they know about the exact thing you are wanting to plan. They will have people with a ton of knowledge on the feasting and dancing and music of the period as well as resources for costumes and the like. Who knows, you may be able to even have some live sword-fighting ... hehehehehehe ...
See the link below to find a group near you.

I think its a GREAT Idea! Just have the Family and you two dress the part and the rest casual. Keep it goin throughout, so that you dont lose touch with the theme. Flowers are a big part of medieval times and so are the costumes. Make sure that FOOD and Costumes are a MUST. I think its great you are letting the man be more involved. Some women just plan it and the guy shows up! haha!

As long as the food is done well, it should be great. The food at those medieval festivals isn't usually very good. A good roast chicken though is fabulous, with a whole boiled or baked potatoe, sounds great to me. I have a simple palate and can't stand most wedding food, it's way too complicated and over sauced. I would recommend having utensils even if it isn't authentic, people will be dressed up.
You could wear one of those beautiful gowns with the sheer long sleeves.
My husband and I planned every aspect of our wedding together. It was fun, we didn't hire a planner, it was just the two of us. I totally agree with you that it's not just the bride's day it's the groom's too. Good luck, your wedding sounds great.

I would love it personally. I wanted to have a medieval birthday party but I was too broke! If I get married that is exactly the kind of feast I would love to have..

Hmmm...I picture a big, long wooden table, the kind of wooden table that is blocky and thick, with chairs or benches down the sides. Other than that, I am lost, except for maybe some medieval music in the background.

Thats an intersting idea. I think it would be fun to go to. You could have your invitations as scrolls, and you could have thrones for the bride and groom at the reception.
Go here, great ideas

Dressing up in costumes-usually gay. But I'd do anything for a turkey leg

It would be good, make it all pre-raphelite medieval though, not too dark and dingy with rush flooring and drumsticks, think knights and ladies, king authur and camelot, chivalry etc.
