Christianity notoriously supports tyrants. It's there in history books.

"A certain sense of cruelty towards oneself and others is Christian; hatred of those who think differently; the will to persecute. Hatred of mind, of pride, courage, freedom, libertinage of mind, is Christian; hatred of the sense, of the joy of the senses, of joy in general is Christian." - Friedrich Nietzsche

I believe that the Christians that support war and killing of any kind are using the Bible to back up whatever they want to believe. They can always speak for God in saying this is right and that isn't right and if they didn't have the Bible to back them up people would know for sure it is just their opinion not God's.

How do you explain the lengths that some Christians will go to stop abortions and also to keep birthcontrol from women but support the war and capitol punishment?

Of course, their are always some really honest Christians who try their best to follow Christ's teachings but they don't use the Old Testement to support their killer eye for an eye beliefs.

God supported war. He told the nation of Israel to go to war many times. Some of the most important people in the Bible (like David) were military men. Turning the other cheek is more a personal decision, not a national one.

The Bible is filled wit righteous wars. To say that a Christian cannot support war is to not have a good grasp of the Bible.

As an example, David killed Goliath. Does that mean David is not a believer of God?

See what I am saying. If there is evil, the righteous need to kill it.

P.S. I'm not talking about the Iraqi War, but rather wa in general, since I think that was the gist of your question.

David killed Goliath in the Old Testament. Jesus said turn the other cheek in the New Testament. Aren't Jesus' teachings supposed to overshadow all previous teachings? Isn't that what it means to be a Christian- to follow Christ's example?

Well, just like with most religions, there are good Christians and there are bad Christians. The ones that support the war think that God would want us to be in the war for whatever reason.

Jesus also got pretty pissed off at all those vendors at the temple and smashed their displays. The Bible contradicts itself all the time.

Nevertheless, a country must defend itself and that is what is being done. You live in Neverland if you think you can sit around and turn the other cheek.

To protect their beliefs, families, etc. Jesus did say turn the other cheek, but that was in a different instance. Sometimes this must be done. It is better that one man die than a nation dwindle in disbelief. We must fight for righteous causes, this is what a true warrior does.

I'm just sorry I missed the Crusades. Kidding!
I don't support war for the sake of war, but sometimes it is necessary.

The human race being diverse is good, but also causes difference. People in general are sheep, although..not all of us ! Its not just the one church...its most...unfortunately. People tend to search for spirituallity thru another ones belief called religion.
