Why do so many think the beast is the antichrist? Like boxing_fan_4 above me? The word antichrist is only mentioned in the Bible four times. 3 times in the First Epistle of John and once in the second Epistle of John. John says that anyone who does not believe that Jesus Christ came in the flesh, as the son of God is an antichrist. To sum it up...anyone who is not a christian is an antichrist. The antichrist is not the devil, and is not the beast. An antichrist is never even mentioned in the book of Revelation.

666 is the number of the name of the beast by the ancient Hebrew numerical system. Yes, the Beast most likely is a country, or a religion, such as Islam. How many nations has Islam overtaken since we can now count Somalia? Hmmmmm...
So the 7 heads could be the 7 leaders of Islamic countries or the countries themselves, or maybe its not Islam, maybe its the EU, which a lot of people believe it will be. Of course, the EU doesn't go around lopping off peoples heads who don't agree with them, which brings us right back to Islam. So if we get a Islamic leader who pretends to give us peace for a while, we'll know that's the false prophet.
Oh yeah, everyone interprets the book of Revelation differently, don't be so quick to assume you're right. We may both be very, very wrong, then won't we feel silly telling everyone that "we understand the book of Revelation"?

because first, its not a simple thing for pat answers
the beast is contrasted with the lamb
the raging sea is contrasted with the controlled sea of glass
in a sense the spirit of the antichrist has been around in all ages and although there may be an ultimate fulfillment, in some ways there was always types of the antichrist in various ways in all ages
and because second, just as the Bible is a book about God not the devil and revelation about Jesus Christ not the antichrsit seeing mainly the anitichrist is missin the forest for the trees. The KINGDOM IS THE LORDS and its best to overcome by the word of His testimony and the BLOOD OF THE LAMB
in the end those who's robes are washed in the blood of the lamb live in Jerusalem forever

Here is what God's word says...
Rev 13:1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.
The "ten horns" are explained in (Dan_7:24); (Rev_17:12) to be ten kings, and the whole vision is of the last form of Gentile world-power, a confederated ten-kingdom empire covering the sphere of authority of ancient Rome (Rev_13:1-3) refers to the ten-kingdom empire; versus (Rev_13:4-10) to the emperor, who is emphatically "the Beast." - Scofield Reference Notes
But in Rev 13:11 you ignore the second beast... Who does issue the mark.. 666.
Rev 13:11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.
Rev 13:12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
Rev 13:13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
Rev 13:14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
Rev 13:15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
Rev 13:16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
Rev 13:17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
Rev 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.
In His Service,
Ray

The beast is group of countries i believe, 7 heads being 7 countries, 10 horns being 10 leaders, and 10 crowns being the ten areas the world is separated into and ruled by those ten leaders. the mark is how the masses will be controlled.
In our world, trade is the wealth and health of any society, and by monitoring and controlling that trade everything can remain united. The mark will be required by any who intend to buy or sell. You'll need the mark to buy groceries... that sort of thing.
its spoken of also in daniel, he was given the same vision, only in different detail.
That beast will give rise to the antichrist, who will sit himself in the new temple and call himself God.
There is more than one beast in revelations, and in daniel.
Its an interesting study.
Oh, wanted to throw in there too, that revelations actually gives the same account over and over three times. from tribulation, to the saving of those who are his, to the judgements.... it keeps giving the same account in different detail.

Curious, where did you come to the conclusion that the beast is a kingdom? (Honestly, I've simply never heard that interpretation before.)
The book of Revelation is a funny one, most people don't know that the author was using apocalyptic writing (simply meaning a heavy use of symbolism and allegory.) Hence, it's very difficult to know what exactly John meant in much of the book, and how to apply it to our lives now, though it is assumed that the "code" could be rather easily understood by the Christians of the time who were suffering the same persecution as he.

The same reason people think that there is only one Antichrist, who will come during tribulation. When the fact is that anyone who does not believe in JC is an Antichrist (2John 7)and the word Antichrist is never mentioned in the book of Revelation. People do not study the Bible, they rely on hearsay for their Biblical knowledge.

For the same reason they misunderstand most of the things in the bible. The don't misunderstand it so much as change the definition to suit their own needs. Take Hell for example, it's referred to as a 'lake of fire' outside the city walls. This would be what is called a modern day land fill, the gas rises and builds so at night it has a blue glow, hence the 'lake of fire' I could go on forever.

Is there really a way to NOT misunderstand it? There is no single interpretation that anyone can say is "right" without some reservations. I agree that it is a kingdom, but I believe John was speaking about Rome, the "evil empire" of the time.

Clarify it. You are saying people misunderstand it, but aren't saying how they misunderstand it.
How have you come to the conclusion it is a kingdom?
Do not say "Well, because it has 10 crowns it has to be." That doesn't prove anything. If you feel people misunderstand it, allow them an avenue to understand it.
