I am going to offer you some hopeful ideas. You went to the doctor and I assume you have had a chest x-ray. If you have not had one, perhaps it is because your doctor thinks it is unnecessary. You are having anxiety attacks regarding your health. You are concerned about the issue of smoking. I think you need to concentrate on the following ideas :
1. if you smoke indoors, you have an increased chance of having sinus/allergy problems ..... a sore throat that feels as if there is a lump could be from sinus problems caused from smoking
2. I do not know why your doctor would give you 4 anti-biotics, but you broke the cardinal rule when you took them : you stopped taking them when you got better ...... that is dumb ! ..... you are building up an immunity to anti-biotics and that may be why the infection returns
3. if you had esophogeal cancer, you would probably not have gotten better with an anti-biotic
4. numbness in your left hand and arm could be the reult of a deteriorating disc in your neck .... it could be totally unrelated to other symptoms

You do not sound like a hypochondriac, but you sound like you are having some panic. Panic is caused, sometimes, from lack of control in your life. So, take control of yourself !
1. make another appointment and go back to the doctor ; take a copy of this question you have posted on YahooAnswers
2. do not try and stop smoking (unless you really want to right this second) until you have talked to your doctor about it ....... there are some excellent medications that can help you quit smoking while dealing with any depression you might have
3. decide to be happy today and do something FUN, even if you don't feel like it ........
By doing things the things that a normal, responsible adult should do (including taking care of your health), you will feel better. You are 'projecting' negatives. This is probably a great opportunity for you to make some changes, and the odds are in your favour. Good Luck and JUST DO IT !

Most people move around alot at night, so its possible you were lying on your side at one point.

However, numbness/pain from left hand arm can also be caused by heart conditions. get it checked out you need your heart.

If you'v had antibiotics 4 times... surely your doctor has seen your throat... or does he just chuck some pills at you. I'd change doctor if thats the case. But if you're not finishing them off properly then maybe ur at blame.

You could just have a throat infection.., maybe its smoking irritation to your throat.. and definatlely the history of pneumonia makes you very susceptible for lung problems from smoking... what are u thinkin.? pneumonia alone, will damages your lungs permanently. and thats without adding smoking to the equation

most of the estimated 30,200 new cases and 7,800 deaths per year from oral cavity and pharynx cancers are caused from smoking in the United States

34 is young for esophageal cancer but it can happen -although less likely.
You might have reflux which you are aspirating in lung.
Elevate head end of bed bu two 6-8" blocks below head end or the bed.
Do not eat for 4-5 hours before bed...
Avoid mints, onions, Citrus fruits and carbonated drinks.
Quit Smokng for God's sake!
Take meds like Prevacid or protonix or Nexium.
If all this failes, getting an EGD is good idea.
SOme people with reflux need surgery.

Sounds like you need to see your Gp, have you had any investigations for these symptoms? it could be something as simple as oesophageal reflux, which your Gp can treat,as for the numbmess in your arm, my husband suffered this when he was smoking since stopping he has had no symptoms, once again your Gp can assess this if you pay them a visit.Good luck.

I had "1" cancer cell in my LES ( the dr. called it my flapper, just at the top of my stomache, and what they call Barretts Esophagus. I didn't know that was pre-cancer until I was sent to a surgeon! I had scope after scope for almost a year, the first scope and biopsy showed H-Pylori, ( i hope i spelled that right.), my sister had it, and since I had had heartburn for a very long time, ( just thought it was due to my nerves), I was put on prev-pack, If I remember right, it was like 2,000 mg. of anit-biotics a day!! I know it was a lot to get rid of this infection. (My sister had a pain in the middle of her chest, but I did not) After that was taken care of, more scopes and biopsy's by the surgeon, he took out the LES and 1 1/2 inches of my esophagus. I do not heal good like most, and I had a lot of problems and a lot of hospital stays, I would get dehydrated a lot because of throwing up. The Dr. kept at me, finally protonix 40 mg. x 2 a day has helped. I had been having way too many side effects from the others, so naturally the most expensive one helps. (if you don't have ins. or can't afford them, you can get them for free from your dr. or straight from the drug making company!) I also smoked, hate to admit it, I didn't do a lot of smoking only because I was so darn sick all the time!! I also started to get pneumonia while in the hosptial and a different dr. was on call, and I didn't know it of course, but he put a tube down my nose in to my lungs and sucked out the fluids, yep, it hurt, but I didn't have the strength to get up out of bed to get moving to stop it, so he had to do it I know now! If it wasn't for my sister staying with me at the time, I would have died. I was so sick and tired of being sick, I couldn't eat, I slept all I could, and was just plain giving up! I got up to go potty and went black just after I called for her and saw her. I woke up with my daughter(is a nurse) standing in front of me (still on the potty!) and they took me to the ER. I had lost 3 pints of blood and had a hole in my esophagus and was put in ICU. So if you are having acid reflux, yes it can go "very" bad on you!! Make sure you have a good Dr. that will refer you to a cancer Dr. I fall asleep on my left side, and I have had it tingle like falling asleep in my arms, but I have also had surgery on my arm due to it being broke, but so far nothing bad there, but have a Dr. rule out any heart problems. By the way I was 10 yrs. older than you when this started on me, and I had smoked for about the same amount of time. I also had a lot of sore throats, but they were mostly due to the burning from the acid reflux. The top of my bed has been elevated for over 6 years, I still get acid reflux, but since the cancer surgeon removed some of the acid causing agents in my lower stomache on the 2nd surgery, I just don't taste the bad taste or burning, so I still have to have a Dr. check me at least once a year. I hope I have answered some of your problems, and pray if you are having these problems more and more that you get checked out!! These are serious health issues, and yes smoking does not help, but the Dr. told me my nerves couldn't take it to quit, but that was at that time! (2000!) Good Luck to you.
