Probably because there's been so many things on TV about students dating teachers and there ends up being a legal case.

1) Are we talking about children dating teachers? That's just sick. What can a child offer an adult in a dating relationship?

2) If we're talking about college, if a student is dating a teacher, the teacher can show favoritism to that student. It's not fair to the other students.

There's a pretty obvious conflict of interest if student is in the same class as the instructor.

If both are adults of similar age, not high school student and 40 year old (or similar) and the student is not in the teacher's class and will not be in the future, one can argue there's nothing wrong with this.

The wrongness comes up when underage students are involved with teachers who should live by a higher ethical standard. In my opinion anyway.

Let's see--- age, conflict of interest, age, .....

Are you thinking of high school kids dating their teachers or college students dating their teachers?

The age difference is the big thing. Also, if the student is still in class and dating the teacher, there is a conflict of interest and an ethical issue here.

If the student is 18 years or older, this person is an adult. But, until think I would say stay away.

More trouble than it's worth!

If the student is a child or a minor then you could say that the teacher is taking advantage of their authority.
Now if the teacher was a single college professor and he was dating an adult college student perhaps it would be different. Many universities would even discourage that too.

Compromises the student/teacher relationship. The teacher could flunk the student if the relationship goes bad and ruin the entire rest of the students life, or the student could use the relationship to get good grades to which they are not entitled.

(Plus if you are talking a minor child student you have a whole different set of legal and moral issues.)

Some consider it an abuse of power. Also, grades and such could be impacted if you are dating a teacher.

P.S. I sincerely hope you are talking about a college student dating a college professor. If not, the reason why it is considered unacceptable is obvious.

It is unethical and it presents a conflict of interest for both the student and the teacher.

It's because the teacher is an authority figure and a role model, they are also usually quite a bit older. Stick to your own age group.
