The Tree of Life represents the love of God. When we partake of the love of God, or the fruit of the Tree of Life, we obtain eternal life or become as God is, dwelling in His presence. Ultimately, this is the goal of each of us. For Adam and Eve, it was premature for them to partake of the fruit at that time. Having transgressed the law by partaking of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, they now had to go through the repentance process and learn by their mistakes to choose good from evil. Having thus experienced good and evil, they can then partake of the love of God and gain eternal life at the proper time. The Book of Mormon has an excellent passage about the tree of life in First Nephi chapters 8 and 11.

The concept of the "tree of life" sounds very similar to a few things that Jesus said later in the New Testament. "Believe in me, and you will have eternal life," is the paraphrased version. Eternity, according to the Bible, can be found only through God and goodness.
So to "translate" the passage you have there, it would go something like this:
God said that Adam and Eve had brought sin into the world, and had opened the floodgates of temptation -- resulting in mortal beings; but had they eaten only from the tree of life and chosen eternity with God and righteousness, a world without sin, Adam and Eve would not know evil after all, and live immortally.
As others have mentioned, the reason God banished them from the Garden of Eden was because of their sins -- had they eaten the fruit of the tree of life, they would have lived forever as sinners with God.

There was a tree that conferred immortality which became an issue after man became subject to mortality through eating the fruit of the other tree...once the tree of knowledge had been eaten, man's lusts became aroused. Had he also achieved immortality, he would have spent all his time pursuing material gratification and not looking towards perfecting his spirit.

the consequence of sin is death (separation from body and God), the tree of life provided sustanence for life, and closeness with the father.
Before the fall adam and eve would eat from that tree, because they were eternal beings, and it replenished their bodies and gave then strength to be in the presense of Gods glory.
He was carrying out his judgement against their sin by removing them from the place where they could access that life and closeness with him.
They had sinned and were marked by that sin, if they ate of the tree of life without that sin being removed they would be in violation of the principals of God, death would not be paid, and they would be living (in the presence of God) dispite their sin. That would be an abomination, just as much as a zombie is in violation of "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord", or, being dead means your spirit is NOT in the body and the body is no longer animated.
Adam and eve didnt know how to die, they knew how to live, and to live they ate from the tree of life. If they had access to that fruit they would never die, and thus the wages of sin would not be met, and justice would not be found.

The tree of life is a plant that the Annunaki gods from Sumer brought with them from their planet when they came to earth. This planet enabled them to have what appeared to humans as immortality. This is the same plant that Gilgamesh found at the end of the story. He was so selfish that he ripped the plant up by the roots but it was stolen from him by a snake. It is also the same tree of life that is recorded in the Sumerian story of Adapa and the tree of life. It was also recorded in the Sumerian texts as being used to bring one of the goddesses back to life after she was killed. The Adam and Eve story originates from these same ancient texts.
In the lost books of Eden Adam asked for one drop of the oil from this plant to ease his pain of dying and was denied it by the angel.

now that sounds like a bit of phallic symbolism. But, most christians take it literally, as a tree in the garden of eden who's fruit will let you live forever. Hey, that would be a good premise for a vampire movie, maybe.

The Devil is the tree of knowledge of good and evil. The host of Heaven are talking about flesh men. Men has just taken of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. If they partake of the tree of life (Jesus) they have a chance for salvation. Of course you would have to believe and repent in Jesus' name. This is how you take of the tree of Life.

This tree became their announcement of independence from God. formerly they were allowed to stay in the backyard or maybe eat of the tree of existence. After this aspect they were no longer in basic terms pushed from the backyard and disallowed the tree of existence, yet surely experienced an instantaneous religious lack of life--type of like a ticking time bomb. Their existence became downhill from that aspect ahead, the approach had began and they could do no longer something to offer up it. Merriam Webster defines moral experience as: a million a : the experience or understanding of the moral goodness or blameworthiness of one's own habit, intentions, or personality alongside with a feeling of criminal responsibility to do excellent or be solid b : a school, skill, or theory enjoining solid acts c : the part of the superego in psychoanalysis that transmits instructions and admonitions to the ego. in the experience that that they had finished no longer something incorrect until eventually that aspect then i believe this is lifelike to say that considering that they had no evil in them, there became in all likelihood no thanks to have awareness about the evil that does no longer exist. in basic terms after did this knowledge come into existence. this is notably puzzling to imagine how they could have chosen something evil having no awareness of evil. in the experience that they were ideal how ought to they have even drifted out of perfection? i do not realize it thoroughly, yet God must have allowed them even the ability to spoil themselves in the experience that they so wanted it.

Just like there are two sets of books (Book of Revelation), there are also two types of trees. Talk about closure. Fantastic stuff!
