My Dad is gonna be bedridden for a long time and he loves to read. I want to get him something that is not too "churchy" if you know what I mean. Maybe someones testimony or something like that.

You could try the 'Left Behind" series. There are quite a few of them. They are facinating reading about Armegedon. Not to 'churchy' and once your Dad starts these books he will not be able to put them down. Below is a brief description of the first book.

Left Behind
A Novel of the Earth's Last Days

Passengers aboard a Boeing 747 en route to Europe disappear. Instantly. Nothing remains except their rumpled piles of clothes, jewelry, fillings, surgical pins, and the like.

Vehicles, suddenly unmanned, careen out of control. People are terror-stricken as loved ones vanish before their eyes.

Some blame space aliens. Others claim a freak of nature. Still others say it was a high-tech military attack by a world conqueror.

But airline captain Rayford Steele's wife had warned him of this very event. If Irene Steele was right, both she and their young son have disappeared. What about their older daughter? Like Rayford, Chloe had been skeptical.

In the midst of global chaos, Rayford must search for his family, for answers, for truth. As devastating as the disappearances have been, the darkest days may lie ahead.

Terror and chaos continues worldwide as the cataclysm unfolds. For those left behind, the apocalypse has just begun.

In this moving novel, Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim LaHaye offer an account of what life might be like for those left behind when millions vanish. Left Behind will intrigue you, entertain you, and challenge you. And when you realize it represents an event that millions believe will actually occur, it could change your life.

Depends the kind of literature that your Dad likes.
Sports biographies could be good.
If he likes fiction Frank Peretti, CS Lewis, Susan Howatch. CSLewis has written a good SF trilogy.
The story of Corrie Ten Boom, The Hiding Place a holocaust story.
If he likes history, Thomas Cahill.
If he likes science The Case for a Creator is excellent. If he's into religion, The Case for Christ. Both of these are by Lee Strobel.
If he's wary, give him nonChristian books that you have enjoyed and just spend time with him, loving him and caring for him.
God bless.
Daniel

The Sacred Diary of Adrian Plass on Tour
The Sacred Diaries of Adrian Plass, Andromeda and Leonard

I recommend for humour, relative stuff and hints of the churchy without being between the eyes kind of stuff...

Introduce him to science fiction with a couple of classics like HG Wells, "The War of the Worlds", then give him something by C.S. Lewis. A lot of Christians who would never touch Science Fiction like his storys. I enjoy Philosophy so am slogging thru "The Question of God" by him and Sigmund Freed, its very theological and probably not up his alley at all.

I agree with "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis, it's pretty interesting. I find "Letters from the Earth" by Mark Twain pretty neat, but I don't know if it'd get him into Christianity or not, if that's what you're trying to accomplish. It's been a long time since I've read that one.

How about "Safe People"? It is a relationship book written by a Christian.

He's not into relationships? Try "Soul Survivor" by Phillip Yancey (or why I still believe in God in spite of the church). It is a series of short essays about famous people who maintained their Christian Faith in spite of the fact that most Christians of their day weren't very godly.

There is the book by Chuck Norris about his life and faith that is very good. I think this book may be subtle enough based on how you are explaining things.

I would suggest the Purpose Driven Life, Your best life now, or the Left Behind series.
