I believe why people keep it because they think God changed the day or that Jesus rose that day or they believe it's the seventh day or some say they need a Sabbath day so they pick a day out of seven. Most (Matt.7:13) follow the crowd and and are not aware why they keep Sunday. I used to keep it because everyone else did; but when I found out the truth December of 2005 about the Sabbath being Saturday--I kept it and still do today.

The Sabbath is from Friday Evening to Saturday Evening; Jews still keep it as some christians. No work is to be done this day.
Jesus himself told us to keep this day (John 4:22-24).
"Ye worship ye know not what; we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews." John 4:22
Notice Jesus was saying that we should worship Saturday like the Jews.

Look Sabbath up in Encyclopaedia Americana, Vol.24, pp.68-69.
The Calendar also tells us the 7th day is Saturday.

If you look up Genesis 1:8; it tells us that the evening and morning were the second day. Lev.23:32 says from evening to evening to celebrate the Sabbath.

GENESIS 2:2-3 "AND ON THE SEVENTH DAY GOD ENDED HIS WORK WHICH HE HAD MADE; AND HE RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY FROM ALL HIS WORK WHICH HE HAD MADE. AND GOD BLESSED THE THE SEVENTH DAY, AND SANCTIFIED IT: BECAUSE THAT IN IT HE HAD RESTED FROM ALL HIS WORK WHICH GOD CREATED AND MADE." {sanctify = to set apart; make holy}

EXODUS 20:8-11 "REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY, TO KEEP IT HOLY. SIX DAYS SHALT THOU LABOUR, AND DO ALL THY WORK: BUT THE SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH OF THE LORD THY GOD: IN IT THOU SHALT NOT DO ANY WORK, THOU, NOR THY SON, NOR THY DAUGHTER, THY MANSERVANT, NOR THY MAIDSERVANT, NOR THY CATTLE, NOR THY STRANGER THAT IS WITHIN THY GATES: FOR IN SIX DAYS THE LORD MADE HEAVEN AND EARTH, THE SEA, AND ALL THAT IN THEM IS, AND RESTED THE SEVENTH DAY: WHEREFORE THE LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH DAY, AND HALLOWED IT." {the 4th Commandment}

REV.14:7 "SAYING WITH A LOUD VOICE, FEAR GOD, AND GIVE GLORY TO HIM; FOR THE HOUR OF HIS JUDGEMENT IS COME; AND WORSHIP HIM THAT MADE HEAVEN, AND EARTH, AND THE SEA, AND THE FOUNTAINS OF WATER."{fear God means reverence him; also this text points back to the 4th Commandment}

LEV.23:3 "SIX DAYS SHALL WORK BE DONE: BUT THE SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH OF REST, AN HOLY CONVOCATION; YE SHALL DO NO WORK THERIN: IT IS THE SABBATH OF THE LORD IN ALL YOUR DWELLINGS."

DEUT.5:12-14 "KEEP THE SABBATH DAY TO SANCTIFY IT, AS THE LORD THY GOD HATH COMMANDED THEE. SIX DAYS SHALT THOU LABOUR, AND DO ALL THY WORK: BUT THE SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH OF THE LORD THY GOD: IN IT THOU SHALT NOT DO ANY WORK, THOU, NOR THY SON, NOR THY DAUGHTER, THY MANSERVANT, NOR THY MAIDSERVANT, NOR THINE OX, NOR THINE ***, NOR ANY OF THINE CATTLE, NOR THY STRANGER THAT IS WITHIN THY GATES: THAT THY MANSERVANT AND THY MAIDSERVANT MAY REST AS WELL AS THOU."

HEBREWS 3:18-19; 4:1-11 (talks about the 7th day)
2PETER 2:21 (talks about the 4th commandment)

{Jesus's Example= "For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps"--1PETER 2:21}
LUKE 4:16 "AND HE CAME TO NAZARETH, WHERE HE HAD BEEN BROUGHT UP: AND, AS HIS CUSTOM WAS, HE WENT INTO THE SYNAGOGUE ON THE SABBATH DAY, AND STOOD UP TO READ."

MARK 2:23-28 "AND IT CAME TO PASS, THAT HE WENT THROUGH THE CORN FIELDS ON THE SABBATH DAY; AND HIS DISCIPLES BEGAN, AS THEY WENT, TO PLUCK THE EARS OF CORN. AND THE PHARISEES SAID UNTO HIM, BEHOLD, WHY DO THEY ON THE SABBATH DAY THAT WHICH IS NOT LAWFUL? AND HE SAID UNTO THEM, HAVE YE NEVER READ WHAT DAVID DID, WHEN HE HAD NEED, AND WAS AN HUNGRED, HE, AND THEY THAT WERE WITH HIM? HOW HE WENT INTO THE HOUSE OF GOD IN THE DAYS OF ABIATHAR THE HIGH PRIEST, AND DID EAT THE SHEW BREAD, WHICH IS NOT LAWFUL TO EAT BUT FOR THE PRIESTS, AND GAVE ALSO TO THEM WHICH WERE WITH HIM? AND HE SAID UNTO THEM, THE SABBATH WAS MADE FOR MAN, AND NOT MAN FOR THE SABBATH: THEREFORE THE SON OF MAN IS LORD ALSO OF THE SABBATH." {The Pharisees thought his disciples were breaking the Sabbath by plucking and eating corn; but Jesus told them it wasn't work. Jesus healed on the sabbath as helped people. On the Sabbath day you can even warm meals as boil water for oatmeal on the Sabbath. The work that you cannot do is cooking meals because it takes an hour or hours to cook or by staying in the fields to do hard labor or cleaning, shopping in the store, eating at restaurants and etc. The Pharisees were putting their laws on people. But Jesus came back to them, when he said "the Sabbath was made for man".}

{Apostles kept the Sabbath--Eph.2:20}
ACTS 17:2 "AND PAUL, AS HIS MANNER WAS, WENT IN UNTO THEM, AND THREE SABBATH DAYS REASONED WITH THEM OUT OF THE SCRIPTURES."

ACTS 18:4 "AND HE REASONED IN THE SYNAGOGUE EVERY SABBATH, AND PERSUADED THE JEWS AND THE GREEKS."

Now let's see if the Catholics know when the seventh day is.
"Ques.--Which is the Sabbath day?
"Ans.--Saturday is the Sabbath day.
"Ques.--Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?
"Ans.--We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday."--Peter Geiermann, The Convert's Catechism of Catholic Doctrine (1946 ed.), p.50. Geiermann received the "apostolic blessing" of Pope Pius x on his labors, Jan.25,1910. [bible readings pg.194]

"The Catholic Church...by virtue of her divine mission, changed the day from Saturday to Sunday."--The Catholic Mirror, official organ of Cardinal Gibbons, Sept. 23, 1893.

***Dan.7:25 "he shall think to change times and laws"

SO IF YOU KEEP SATURDAY HOLY(JN.4:22-24) AND FOLLOW JESUS CHRIST FAITH; YOU WILL HAVE THE(REV.14:12) "SEAL OF GOD".

The SEAL contains 3 things. (Exodus 20:8-11 & Rev.14:7)
1. HIS NAME,
2. HIS OFFICIAL POSITION, TITLE OR AUTHORITY
3. THE EXTENT OF HIS DOMINION AND JURISDICTION

Now the SEAL in the 4th Commandment is
1. THE LORD
2. MADE {office,creator}
3. HEAVEN AND EARTH {dominion}

If we know the SEAL is the 7th day sabbath Saturday (EXOD.20:8-11); then rejecting it would be the MARK.

REV.7:2-3 "AND I SAW ANOTHER ANGEL ASCENDING FROM THE EAST, HAVING THE SEAL OF THE LIVING GOD: AND HE CRIED WITH A LOUD VOICE TO THE FOUR ANGELS, TO WHOM IT WAS GIVEN TO HURT THE EARTH AND THE SEA,
SAYING,HURT NOT THE EARTH, NEITHER THE SEA, NOR THE TREES, TILL WE HAVE SEALED THE SERVANTS OF OUR GOD IN THEIR FOREHEADS." {Deut.6:8 =knowing, doing and keeping the Sabbath holy}

The case for Sunday is quite compelling, but as it says in Romans "one holds one day special another another day, one man holds all day" a good concience is more important that the calender

Jesus said when it comes to the Sabbath He's the boss
and here is a list of what happened on Sundays after the resurection

-Jesus was seen first after being raised on Sunday
-a week later was seen on Sunday
-The Holy Spirit came on Pantacost on Sunday
- the apostles collected offerings on Sunday in corinthians
- Paul spoke as Euticus fell outta the window on a Sunday
- the last word of the Bible, Revelation was given on Sunday

Saturday commemorated the finished work of creation
Sunday sommemorated the finished work of re creation

This is not an essential issue but something Christians may disagree about, but there is good reaosn to in good conciennce celebrate and meet for worship together on Sunday

The most important Sabbath and refered to in Hebrews as a new Sabbath remaining for the people of God and is neither Saturday or Sunday but a rest from sin through the cross, glorifying God leaning on the work of Chirst on the cross believeing for eternal life

“Remember the Sabbath” was a command of the Old Testament. At that time, the church of the New Testament had not yet been established. Jesus said in Matthew 16:18, “I will build my church.”
To see how we should worship in this New Testament church, we should look to the New Testament.
The Law that commanded, “remember the Sabbath” has been “nailed to the cross”. Now no one is to judge us according to the Sabbath days. (Colossians 2:14-16)

So, why do New Testament Christians meet on Sunday (the first day of the week) instead of Saturday (the 7th day, the Sabbath)? Here are a few of the reasons:

1.Jesus Rose from the dead on the first day of the week. (Mark 16:1-2)
2.The church began (was established) on the day of Pentecost. Pentecost was always on the first day of the week.
3.The Biblical example is that the early Christians met on the first day of the week for the Lord’s Supper. (Acts 20:7) In this example, they also heard preaching.
4.The early Christians were commanded to give their offering when they met on the first day of the week. (1 Corinthians 16:2)

It can be shown from the New Testament, as well as from history, that the early Christians met on the first day of the week. “Remember the Sabbath day” was addressed to the Israelites who were under the Law of Moses. We are now under the law of Christ.

You're right, in the Old Testament the Sabbath day was Saturday (actually, it started Friday night). For Christians, however, attending church on Sunday is a continual commemoration of Christ's resurrection which, according to tradition, occurred on the Sunday after his crucifixion.

So many of the answers by protestants here are ... well, ROTE! Do some research, learn the history, don't just repeat what you've heard. THINK, DAMNIT!

The Bible doesn't say the Sabbath is Sunday anywhere. Perhaps you should "read" your Bible before you attribute certain quotes to it. I know your pastor says it's Sunday, but do you personally know why? Don't ask the pastor, research it yourself.

I know, the majority of the popular sects of Christianity don't teach thinking for yourself or doing research, they want you to just listen to what they preach and follow like a lemming. God gave you a brain, use it for yourself.

I'm not saying you shouldn't believe what you believe, but at least know WHY you believe what you believe and don't give some ignorant answer like : "the Bible says the Sabbath is Sunday."

I refer you to my other post, where I propose we rename the Christian Right the Christian Rote. :)

Marie - I wasn't trying to be 'mean', I was trying to get people to think for themselves. One of the biggest dangers in our society now is that people don't question leaders they follow. We are inclined to question those we don't follow. We need to question those we do follow even more so than the ones we don't. So that we are 100% positive what we stand for. Just be certain you question everything and know internally why you believe what you believe. Then no one can touch you. :)

We go to church on Sunday because that's when Christ rose from the dead. Some churches, like 7th Day Adventists, do go to church on Saturday. Remember, we're not under the law any more, but grace.

The Bible nowhere says to flow to "church" on a Saturday or the sabbath. The Bible commanded those lower than the regulation to relax of their dwellings on the sabbath. The sabbath became a "holy convocation" the position one got here formerly God on that day in the homestead, and not in any respect in communal worship. the recent covenant facilitates the freedom of human beings to convey mutually for communal worship each and every time and anyplace they so decide on, while the in basic terms position human beings lower than the regulation ought to convey mutually for communal worship became Jerusalem. What God replaced were the covenants; ending the former and beginning the recent, and the recent does no longer require the observance of days as became extant in the former. .

In the new testament it says they began meeting on "the Lords day" the first day of the week. to honor Jesus being resurrected on the first day of the week.Good question though most people think the sabbath is Sunday but it is actually Saturday, a look at a calender will prove it. As for myself I believe we should have both days off

Well, your not supposed to work on the sabbath, and getting up early, getting the family ready for church, driving across town in heavy traffic is a lot of work. So we go on Sunday to avoid working on Saturday.

Bible says seventh day. Some people interpret that as Saturday (jews, seventh-day adventists), some as Sunday (most christian churches).
