Because God has a plan. It is only through the atoning blood of Christ that man can return to the presence of God and inherit an eternal glory. Gods purpose is "to bring to pass the immortal and eternal life of man". Research this scripture and what it means.

If I am understanding this right, your journey ends with the culmination of committing a crime. You do your own dirty work and be prepared to suffer the consequences. Now, why go to all the trouble, just to end up in jail

Why ask why, it's all about faith. Why is for the other choice, reason.
if you choose to live a faith based metaphysical view of reality. Save yourself the mental anguish.
Just simply hang on and enjoy the ride!
Us reason based folks will run things while you are gone (mentally).

It was for a reason, all part of the Plan. Jesus would come down, have a little chat with us, get us to follow His way, see how we reacted, which of course was badly, we killed him, and it was all so that when WE die we don't go straight to hell.

If you are referring to Jesus, he was the animal sacrifice Hebrews were required to offer as a sacrifice for sin.

And, if the story was true, his sacrifice would have eliminated the penalties for all sin. Which means that everyone is going to heaven regardless what they do.

But, it the bible is a book of mythology.

Because He so loved the world that He sent His only Son, so that whoever believed in Him would not perish but have everlasting life, that's why. Pretty kickass gift, don't you think?

Only makes sense if God is crazy, or if someone made it all up.

I see it as an insult to the unconditionally loving God that I have faith in.
