Because people seem to think there's something wrong with you if you don't.

I got married because my parents accused me of shacking up with my boyfriend. Neither of us wanted a big wedding. We just wanted to be together. But they got all indignant about it and I figured if I wanted to stay with him I needed to marry him. (Yeah, I was young--18). I think it would have been better for both of us if we'd waited.

Should I ever get married, it would be because I want to enter into a lifelong committed relationship with someone, and marriage is an expression of that committment. While you certainly don't have to get married to have or show that committment, it is an option for doing so that I think I would like to ake advantage of.

2. It pretty much locks your partner down. No more questions about where your relationship stands. Everyone knows what marriage means and the symbolism easily explains your relationship to other people. Plus, you have to think long and hard before trying to get out of it. Stability I guess (not that that is necessarily a natural part of any marriage, but that is the expectation).

3. That ring tells other chicks, "Stay the f* off my man."

4. It provides a set of legal standards for when things may get hairy. In addition, it provides certain rights like tax breaks, insurance through your spouse's employment, beneficiary rights, custody and guardian rights, etc.

If your relationship fits the bill, marriage can add all kinds of perks.

I was young and all the books and movies and parents all said ..'one day when you are married' and I said I would never get married but everyone else was and I was curious because it was supposed to change everything...but I still felt the same the next day ..Marriage is very lonely...that is probably why I am still on the computer.

Well, if you feel that you have lived that lifestyle of the fast lane and just want that one person to settle down with, why wouldnt you get married. I plan on gettin married. My man is the man i have been lookin for. He has the same outlook on life and man he knows what he wants. I feel I am at an age to settle down anyway.

There was this line on a movie and it went something like: b/c you need a witness to your life. There is a whole lot of people out there what do they care about one person. But with marriage you say that you will care, you will notice each other.

I would say that would cover it, but i think you would prefer if you loved this "witness" to your life.

I got married because I was crazy about my girl, had been with her long enough to see her ups and downs, and I wanted to share my life and my resources with her. 14 years now. :)
