why do pain and sufferings exist in the world? We find sickness, old age and death. We see things that are ugly, people who are insane and foolish. There are storms, earthquakes, floods, drought and famine. We also see people commit sins, show disloyalty, unfaithfulness, greed and insincerity. We see people commit murders; they fight and make wars. We know all these and many more problems. There are evils caused by human beings and there are natural disasters. There are suffering for individuals and there are those that involve a large number of people. Why does God allow all of these things?
But we also know that this is not the whole story. Besides all these negative things, we also see beauty, health, prosperity, life, birth, wisdom, intelligence, growth and progress. We also see goodness among people, faith, sincerity, charity, love and the spirit of sacrifice. We also see a lot of virtue and piety. It is wrong to see one side of the coin and not to see the other side. Any philosophy that concentrates on one aspect of the creation and denies or ignores the other side is partially true and partial truths are no truth at all.
It is also the fact that the element of good is more in the creation than the element of evil. We all see that there are more people who are healthy than those who are sick. There are more that eat well than those who starve. There are more that lead decent life than those who commit crimes. Goodness is the rule and evil is the exception. Virtue is the norm and sin is the aberration. Generally trees bear fruits, the flowers bloom, the winds move smoothly.
But then the question is why does God allow these exceptions to the rules? The good, evil and whatever happens in this world happens by God's Will. Only God knows fully His Will. We finite beings cannot grasp fully His infinite Will and Wisdom. He runs His universe the way He deems fit. God is Wise and everything that he does is right, just, good and fair. We must submit and surrender to His Will.
God has placed a physical law and a moral law in this universe. God allows suffering to occur when one or more of these laws are broken. The physical law is based on cause and effect. Sickness comes if one does not take care of ones health or is exposed to infections. A car accident occurs when one is not alert, or drives in a careless manner, or if the cars are not checked, roads and freeways are not made and kept in right shape, or the traffic laws are not right or not properly enforced. Study of causes and effects is very important to facilitate safeguards. The way we exceed the measures set by God and violate His laws of "cause and effect" is incredible. It is really the mercy of God that we are saved. Strictly speaking, the question should not be why does God allow suffering, but how much he protects us and saves us all the time in spite of our violations and negligence.
Suffering can also be a test and trial for some people. God allows some people to suffer in order to test their patience and steadfastness. Even Prophets and Messengers were made to suffer. Good people sometimes suffer but their sufferings heal others and bring goodness to their communities. People learn lessons from their good examples. Finally i would like to wish you all the best with bringing up your children. To have come this far shows how tough and couragious you must have been.
I think you could be a little bit nicer to the muslims though, but i still love you like i love every1 else in here. have a nice day.

It is very likely to be an unfortunate combination of genes. With all the millions of possibilities, your child was born with Downs sindrome.
Fortunately you have a large family that will help you give this child all the love it will need to grow up with as many chances as possible.
You are lucky that it is your seventh child being born now and not your first born back whenever. You would have lost all hope and never tried for more children after the first, and things are better for Down's sindrome children nowadays.
Children with Down syndrome can actually attain a huge level of integration in modern society.
Check out http://www.downsyndrome.com/ for some hope and help.
Oh, and leave God out of this one. With all the crazy stuff that is going on in the world, there is no way He has taken a moment to "do" this to you or anybody. Be glad it isn't Cancer, Cerebral Palsy or some degenerative disease that makes you watch your child die one day at a time. THERE are some questions... (and the answers to those are related to the greater levels of industrial activity and our hectic modern way of life.)

It is not because of your sin or your child's. It is because of Adams sin. The world we live in was perverted by original sin. Our genes are corrupted. It could happen to anyone. It will only get worse until Jesus comes again. Don't blame yourself or your child, or God for that matter. He did give us a way out through Christ. We may all suffer for a while.
I used to think that God had unfairly allowed me to have some physical disabilities that others did not have, When I would go for treatments I would see others in worse shape. Sometimes I would almost cry just liking at others.

Read the book "Child of Eternity" It is about an autistic child but the message is true for all children who are born with so-called handicaps.
We have all been trained to believe in an illusion called perfect.
It is an illusion we have that some part of what God has created is faulty. This is not reality. See your child as a gift to all of us that can bring us closer to the truth if we are just open to it.
Any other idea of this child is only an illusion in the mind of the one who sees it.
You have been blessed. Only in your thoughts can this blessing seen as anything less than a gift.
Get the book and read it.
Love and blessings

It has nothing to do with God. It was just a mistake that happened during the makeup of his genes. It happens and is just a chance that people take when they decide to have kids. Nothing is guaranteed when you have children and you just take what life gives you and go with it. I have two girls 8 and 5 and my 5 years old was born with Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. A genetic liver and lung disease that was brought on by a gene that my husband and I both carried unknowingly. I never heard of this till she was born and diagnosed with it. But, we do what we got to do and get her blood tests done to check her liver function and she can never be around smoke and we have to keep her in on ozone action days because of pollution which is a lot because we live in the top ten most polluted cities in the US. It sucks I know and it hurts. I did the same thing wondering what I did and what could have been to prevent it and going through the questions from family and friends who act like you did something while you are pregnant that caused it. Just be happy and enjoy your children while you have them is all you can do.

Why do you assume it's a punishment? Imagine what you will learn from your beautiful son. You have an opportunity to become an even more loving, understanding parent through this. This could be a gift for all you know. This happens to people all the time all over the world. Did you think that maybe you or your kids were somehow better than them or deserved better? I understand your anger. But eventually you need to accept it for what it is and live the best you can.

God would not judge a child...he's testing the parents. Don't blame God for every imperfection in life. These are the times to examine your own life and draw comfort in knowing that there is a purpose to everything God presents in life.
Stop for a second a consider the lesson not the feeling of the experience.

Don't listen to these idiots. My daughter was born with Autism and I think I understand where you are coming from. The question of why bad things happen is a fundamental religious question.
It is a question I struggle with frequently. There is no real answer. Either it will shatter your belief or leave it scarred (some claim it will also strengthen it). Either G-d is not just (something I cannot accept) or he is not omnipotent (also something I cannot accept). The whole concept that in anyway this is done to benefit us or to make us stronger I find repugnant.
I love my daughter with all my heart and soul. I still believe in G-d but the question lingers.

You wont live forever on this earth and sin is in this world that is why God had to build for us mansions in heaven John 3:16-17. This world is not our home we should be more anxious to get home when we see all this. This is sin and I can't wait for God to come and rid it and I get to be with him forever.
All humanity is now involved in a great controversy between Christ and Satan regarding the character of God, His law, and His sovereignty over the universe. This conflict originated in heaven when a created being, endowed with freedom of choice, in self-exaltation became Satan, God's adversary, and led into rebellion a portion of the angels. He introduced the spirit of rebellion into this world when he led Adam and Eve into sin. This human sin resulted in the distortion of the image of God in humanity, the disordering of the created world, and its eventual devastation at the time of the worldwide flood. Observed by the whole creation, this world became the arena of the universal conflict, out of which the God of love will ultimately be vindicated. To assist His people in this controversy, Christ sends the Holy Spirit and the loyal angels to guide, protect, and sustain them in the way of salvation. (Rev. 12:4-9; Isa. 14:12-14; Eze. 28:12-18; Gen. 3; Rom. 1:19-32; 5:12-21; 8:19-22; Gen. 6-8; 2 Peter 3:6; 1 Cor. 4:9; Heb. 1:14.)
