Yes you should - -today's society is far different from when our mothers grew up and the onus is on us today to be RESPONSIBLE. I see nothing wrong with taking your sister to get the pill if you take her to a nurse who will sit down and speak with her about sex, the possible consequences and most importantly the responsibilities of her taking on that decision. I think that education is key in keeping our bodies healthy. And if you and your sister have an open relationship then u keep talking to her as well - the more you guys taboo it, the more she might be intrigued and determined to do.

I would talk to your sister about what kind of birth control she's using now. Someone probably should have already had the "use a condom!" talk with her, but perhaps your mom didn't, for fear it would give her ideas about sex. Tell her that she should use a condom until she knows that whoever she's having sex with is STD-free, meaning he's gotten tested for STDs since he's known her, and was negative for everything. (and for that matter, she should get tested if this is not her first partner, to make sure SHE isn't the one with an STD) If she is having sex, don't "rat her out" or anything to your mom, just quietly do what you have to do to help her stay STD and pregnancy free. I would take her to get birth control pills to use in conjunction with condoms, anyway, because one can never be too sure.
You never know, at 17 your sister might have gotten herself birth control pills, and be using condoms and have it totally under control, but it's always good to make sure. Just do it in a sisterly, non-judgmental way instead of a way that makes her feel bad about having sex, otherwise she won't listen to what you say.

I'm sure at this point your mother would prefer her daughter being on birth control then becoming a mother!
She's 17 she's going to be sexually active better that she practice safe sex. Try to have her use both the pill and condoms.

no. you should talk to her as a sister and let her mother be the mother. Since birth control pills are perscription, you legally can't get them for her anyway.

Give her alot of condoms. Tell her just in case something does happen, that you want her to be safe. Just try to get her to open up about it all too, if she can talk to you about her sexual activity, then you can do more for her and know what to do.

Yes. Since she must not being very vocal or sharing that information with you or your mom, it's better to be safe than sorry. I'm sure your mom wouldn't want to have to take care of the baby that she would have if she is having sex. Especially if she's not being protected.

Would your mother rather she be a Grandmother before your sister is ready?? Ignorance is the worst. If your sister is sexually active, please enlighten her on the consequences of unprotected sex and educate her a little.
And I commend you on caring enough about your sister.
