I agree with you. 'God' is maligned a hundred thousand times more by those who believe in 'God' than those who don't.

1 John 4:8 says "...God is love" and Romans 9:14 says "What shall we say, then? Is there injustice with God? Never may that become so"!
The Bible shows God's main qualities are love, justice, wisdom and power. So God must have had good reasons to put to death individuals or nations in the past-perhaps reasons we humans who are so much lower than He is can understand. So why does he allow wickedness or allow human suffering and what is his purpose for us? Fortunately the Bible really does answer such questions and he does show himself to us if we are willing to put forth the effort to get to know Him. Please study some history and you'll find that such nations as Assyria were noted for their violence, bloodthirstyness, (history shows they played catch with human heads!) and some nations even burned their own children in fires to sacrifice to their false gods. These practises hurt God and so when he destroyed them it wasn't that he was just annoyed with them. Fortunately the Bible explains why humans got into all of this mess we see nowadays and what he purposes for the future. In Daniel it speaks of the world powers and of the last world power at Daniel 2:44 it says "And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a Kingdom that will not be brought to ruin..And the kingdom itself will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite." So God will take over human affairs and the earth will be ruled by him under one government. What will the earth be like in his Kingdom? Note Revelation 21:4 "and God will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning, nor outcry or pain be anymore. The former things have passed away" and verse 5 says in part 'Write, because these words are faithful and true'...and lastly what are the only kind of people who will be allowed to live in his kingdom on earth? Psalms 37:29 says "The righteous themselves will possess the earth. And they will reside forever upon it." I hope I have slowed your anger down towards God. God wants you to ask such questions because he will help you have them answered in one way or another. Email me for more info.

All humanity is now involved in a great controversy between Christ and Satan regarding the character of God, His law, and His sovereignty over the universe. This conflict originated in heaven when a created being, endowed with freedom of choice, in self-exaltation became Satan, God's adversary, and led into rebellion a portion of the angels. He introduced the spirit of rebellion into this world when he led Adam and Eve into sin. This human sin resulted in the distortion of the image of God in humanity, the disordering of the created world, and its eventual devastation at the time of the worldwide flood. Observed by the whole creation, this world became the arena of the universal conflict, out of which the God of love will ultimately be vindicated. To assist His people in this controversy, Christ sends the Holy Spirit and the loyal angels to guide, protect, and sustain them in the way of salvation. (Rev. 12:4-9; Isa. 14:12-14; Eze. 28:12-18; Gen. 3; Rom. 1:19-32; 5:12-21; 8:19-22; Gen. 6-8; 2 Peter 3:6; 1 Cor. 4:9; Heb. 1:14.)

In the past century, militant atheists have killed 150 million people: Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot... (Read Solzhenitsyn's "Gulag Archipelago" for a real view of atheist violence and oppression). That makes religious violence pale in comparison. So why are you unbelievers so violent, when you claim to support genuinely humane values? (That's a rhetorical question; I don't blame all atheists for violence committed by some atheists, and neither should you blame all theists for violence committed by some theists.)
And BTW, many believers don't think God punishes. If you smoke and get cancer, is God punishing you? No; you're just receiving the consequences of your own free actions. All evil is the same: it's the actions of free beings distancing themselves from God. And trust me, God does nothing but try to lead you light and truth!

Please remember that just because someone claims to be a Christian doesn't mean he is a Christian. (Such as the Crusades.) And the Bible says that "Whom the Lord loveth, he chasteneth (punishes)." You'll have to read the Bible and spend time in prayer to find out what God's really like. He's patient, loving, kind, understanding, and just. It's the just part a lot of people don't understand.

Try reading Bhagavad Gita as it is... There is no such contradictions in ancient knowledge of Vedas. And God is such a wonderful Person, no wonder people can not accept a cruel, ruthless image of Him.

you make a good point. the problem is that you believe that it was god who was punishing them. its not. you are talking about a god that the world has shown you, and they believe they've represented him properly. they havent. don't beleive the crap you hear about god punishing and wiping out nations and whatever. its bs. trust your instinct that god is actually about love. all that's happened is that people have taken something good and made it thier own. the true heart of knowing god is something that inspires only beauty and love. if you honestly come to know god, you will find that out.

Its called corruption, all humans are succeptable to this. I for one to go by what a church has done, I go by what their teachings are. Don't let actions of man sway you from the word of God.
