The 580XD is a very solid choice. I believe it was the last driver Taylormade distributed before the R series. I think what you have to do though is go to your local pro shop and test each driver. That's the only way you will know what is most comfortable and suited for your game. There are so many different variations of drivers, some geared towards fixing a slice or a draw, some neutral, different types of shafts with varying stiffness and others geared towards lower handicap players. Do yourself a service and go hit balls with each and make the determination that way. Oh, and make sure you are at a driving range (outside) vs hitting into a screen and letting a monitor tell you what the ball "would've" done.

Ok, I'm going to be perfectly honest with you. The type of club does not make all that much difference except to the pros like Tiger, Vijay or Mickelson. For ordinary guys like us, the typical difference might be 10-20 yards. That's all. It all depends on how well you hit the ball off the tee. If you keep your swing compact, left arm straight, follow through the ball and hit the ball on the sweet spot of the club face, you will launch the ball just as well with a $100 Wilson as you would with a $500 TaylorMade, Ping, Calloway or even Nike. Trust me friend, it's not how much you spend on the club, it's how much you spend at the driving range. If you want to buy a new club, spend it on where it makes the most difference: A good sand wedge or new putter. Putters take the strokes off of your game.

I currently have the 580xd and I love it, the only drive that I would replace it with would be the R5 or the R7. Taylormade produces the best driver on the market. The next driver I would suggest would be the Ping G5. Good luck with your selection, and like a few other people suggested try different loft's on the club and shaft stiffness.

If your looking to spend under $200 on a driver, first, i would choose the Nike Ignite, just because it was one of the best out there a couple years ago. Now the price on it is $100. But i would definitely take a Taylormade 580. Go find somewhere to try each driver out, because it really matters how you hit it, rather than how much you think it looks cool.

Yea the Taylormade 580xd is a great club. others you might want to look at are the Ping G2 and like the guy above me said the Cleveland Launcher. All 3 drivers are great for the price of them.

The Taylormade R5 and R7 series are 2 very good drivers and they have the screws you can adjust for better performance. I would suggest going to a local golf store that allows you to demo clubs and try all brands.

For the price these are going for, they are a great deal. You might also want to check out the Cleveland Launcher series. I would also spend some time making sure that the loft and shaft flexes are fine tuned to your swing. This can make a great deal of difference in overall performance.
