The baptism is your choice for the child, they chose that they want to be a catholic when they are confirmed. And if it is the childs choice now you should let him worship whatever religion he choses,
no harm can come from it.

What religion you are and what you want to teach your son is your choice. The Catholic church must have had some appeal to you if you thought of having your son baptized within it. Having him baptized does not mean that he will grow up Catholic, but the Church does believe that being baptized washes away past sins (Original Sins). All this does is it gives your son or maybe even you (if you wanted to be baptized) a fresh start. No one will or should judge you in the Catholic Church. I myself am not too much into religion and that is my choice. You should not have to ask others what they think you should do, do what you feel is right for you.

Baptism, in my view, has little to do with what church you will be attending. It's about celebrating your acknowledgment of Christ in your life. It's something that God does that we acknowledge with a ceremony.
Baptism is a promise that we make to God and our church community that we will try to live as Christ teaches. It's also a celebration for the congregation and a promise from them that they will help you and stand by you.
Why on earth would you have your son Baptized if you know nothing about it?
I think you need to re-think this and do your homework.
Why Catholic? Are you Catholic? If so you need to have a long talk with your Priest. If not then find a denomination that fits you and talk to them.
below are the sites for the Church I attend. do some reading and some soul searching. Visit other denominations sites and educate yourself.

If you baptize him Catholic you are promising the Catholic Church that you will raise him Catholic. Talk to a priest first and make sure this is something you are willing to commit to.

All good questions.
I was baptized at birth because my mom made me, I am 41 now. But what I want to say is that, I was taken to church not because I wanted to but because I was forced to. Did you ever hear about the Emperor of Rome named Constantine, well thats what he did to the whole of society. He forced everyone to become a Christian, 300a.d.
Well not even God himself does that , can you imagine ?
Four years ago I dedicated my life to Jesus for the first time, on my own because I knew or discovered him to be the only and true Son of God, and its only because of him and what he did at the cross that we can come into Gods presence and nothing else can bring us to God!
Now I find that when people do things on their own because they want to, the world looks different.
Jesus asks us to get baptised when we first make a conscience decision to follow him and how can we first follow him if we haven't said sorry to him, how can we say sorry to him if we don't truly know why he died on the cross like that and then came back to life just after three days. And when you read the Bible it seems that everyone who got baptised was doing it of their own accord and they were adults ! So I dont really believe that getting baptised as an infant is what God wants , but he gives you as the parent freedom to choose!

Infant baptism is completely unscriptural. In each and every instance baptism is mentioned in the Bible, it occurs after the person has 1) believed; and 2) confessed their sins before God (not to a priest). Babies and young children are unable to do this.

Baptism does not save us; if this were true, we are saved by our "works," and not by the undeserved grace of God. Baptism is a believer's signal to the congregation that he or she believes in God and wishes to be symbolically washed of their sins. It DOES NOT wash us of "original sin," as one answer claims; there is nothing in the Bible that substantiates this. If this were true, we would not need a Savior -- we would already be back where Adam and Eve started!

Don't let anyone coerce you into believing your child is going to Hell (or "purgatory," which doesn't exist) if he doesn't get Baptised. This is also unscriptural.

My advice to you is: wait until your child becomes older so he or she can decide whether they believe. In the meantime, join a non-denominational church and strengthen your faith. That way, as your child is growing, you can give the most meaningful inheritance to your child any parent could hope to give: a belief in the One, True God.

Peace and love in Jesus.

Being baptized is the act of acknowledging your past sins and counting on Jesus' death and resurrection to make you a new creature.

I do not believe that having a child baby baptized is the same thing. For it is conscience act that one makes for themselves.

Baptism represents the resurrection of Jesus. Christians should be baptized.

Catholic baptisms today or useless and do nothing. Rituals do not mean anything. A Beleiver's baptism is what matters. Catholics are sadly lost in today's Church.
