There are over a hundred words that the Brits and the Americans either pronounce or spell differently. Add another one hundred alternative words like sidewalk/pavement and you begin to wonder whether we speak the same language at all.

They speak one language but 2 dialects, so that makes the difference in pronunciation or accent.

Americans have their teeth so they are able to pronounce the word mom correctly.

just the way our accents are don't forget the really welshy people say mam, so you have mum, mom and mam, plus you get the english snobs that say, oh mother!

erm they dont always . i live in britan but i say mom and mum. it depends. usually on ur accent. mum in an indian accent and mom in an english accent
