It depends. Has your friend been trying to get pregnant a long time? You could say: "I'm so happy for you! Congratulations in becoming a soon to be a new mother!" or "Congratulations is in order for you and your husband I hope everything goes well". Anything along these lines will be okay. Just be yourself and congratulate her from your heart. If she is a good friend, she'll appreciate your honest feelings. Good luck to your friend! May she have a healthy baby and a wonderful, fulfilling life!

I like "just tell her."
From the standpoint of paternity and child support - if that comes into play - you could say the following:
1. Get his Social Security number;
2. Make sure he signs the hospital paternity acknowledgment
3. Check into genetic tests if you're not sure; they are free in many states.
Either way, if she's happy, be happy for her.

One of the nicest things anyone did for me was to wrap up a jar of pickles in a really fancy package and attach a gift card for Baskin Robbins ice cream. Her sentiment stated that she was so thankful for me reminding her that miracles do exist. I always remembered that I wasn't just pregnant, but truly part of a great miracle.

With words and lots of support throughout the pregnancy! Get her the book "What to Expect When You're Expecting". It is very informative and provides details and information to help new moms and dads along through the pregnancy.

After they tell you the good news you say, "congratulations!" Then tell her that you'll be there for her, and offer to babysit.
