What the hell did Christians do before they built a church...they were still christians...if the churches in New Orleans were washed away were the members no longer Christians? God doesn't sit in the churches and wait for you to come and visit him. Church is just a place to get the message out to a large community. Christianity is practiced by Christians in all locations not just inside a building with a cross on it.

I agree with all believers here that as a Christian we must go to church to have fellowship with other members..

As King David wanted to build a temple for the Lord, because he had this great blessings and everything was provided. Lord asked him to do his work and forget about the temple that King david wanted to build. Now, as a member of the church, we are blessed with good things, is it hard to return what is given? He is not asking for all, even a penny would worth a lot,, there are good things to learn and the Pastors are called to give us the message.

If we want to have relationship with GOD,church is always open.. we worship, pray, have fellowship. bible study,
that is why Sunday is for rest.. .
I am a Christian and we asked this question to our Mentor and some of the answers above is what they told us, to remind each and everyone about church..
Sometimes, I passed this religion category, but there was something that is telling me...so I read bible and that was the calling for..you just can't be a Christian and ignore what is going around you.. don't leave your butt prints in the sand..I got this butt prints in the sand from one of the answers that was asked later and it helped..
blessings everyone !
good day !

Kikasman,
Why on earth would you want to be a christian? Do you know the difference between the followers of Jesus, and christians? They are not the same thing. What started out as a group of disciples, carrying the message that the Kingdom of God is within you, was taken over in the year 325 by the Roman emperor Constantine. He used the popularity of the movement known as the Way, to gain psychological control over his unraveling empire. You can read all about it at the library. Since that time, the movement known as "christianity" has all but forgotten the message that was given to us by the Christ. Do not be fooled into thinking that membership and attendance in a church is going to take you where you want to be. The bible warns us that most ""christians" will not enter the Kingdom (Why do you call Me Lord, Lord?, and do not do what I say?/ I never knew you, depart from me, you who practice lawlessness) The only way to enter God's Kingdom, is when you choose to follow His Way, and invite Him in to be the King of your life. The Kingdom is within you, not in some building. (Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool, where is the house that you would build for Me?) Having said all that, sometimes church is a good place to start. Nobody else out there is even talking about God in a good way. Learn about Him, and always sincerely seek Him in your heart. He is never far away, but always at the door to your heart, gently knocking. When once you let Him in, you will never regret it, I promise.

Absolutely.

Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than hanging out in a garage makes you a car.

What attending a church does (ideally, anyway) is give a structured fellowship with fellow Christians and an opportunity to worship in an organized way.

By all means those things benefit a Christian, but by no means are they necessary.

If you're a Christian, why wouldn't you want to go to church to worship God with other believers? It isn't that going to church makes you a Christian - faith in Christ makes you a Christian. But as the book of James says, "Faith without works is useless." Hebrews 10:25 says it is important to meet together to encourage each other to live a life that pleases God. So I guess my answer is: yes, and also no.

The Bible says that the true "church" of Christ is made up of all of the born again believers who have received the Holy Spirit. He gives us spiritual gifts that are to be used in service to one another. So if a person never goes to church, then unless they have some physical disability that prevents them from attending, one has to wonder if they are truly a Christian or not.

Going to church doesn't "save" a person. But one of the evidences of being saved is that a person is connected to the body of Christ, usually through membership or at least regular attendance at a church.

It depends on how do you view your own religion. For me, religion is what you belief in, its all in your heart, it doesnt mean that those who are in the church are all christian, it depends also on your purpose of being there. If you go to church simply because people tell you that a christian should always go to church, but you your own dont understand the purpose of being there, then do you consider yourself a christian? I wouldnt think so.

In the same way going into your garage does not make you a car. Going to Church will not make you a Christian.
Becoming a Christian is a personal choice you make to follow Christ and HIS teachings. Accept HIM as your only Savior and Lord.
Then you will want to go to church to be around other believers so they can help you and you can help them.

I think people go to Church for Absolution so they can feel good about themselves with out making things right with God or their fellow man. If you have really done wrong and are a protestant you can decide how much to put in the plate, If you are Catholic then I think there is some kind of sliding scale the priests understands so you can be free of guilt.

Of course, your faith is not defined by what you do, is more on what you belief and the relationship you have with God. I see the Church as a venue to reach God, if you need a place to meditate (pray). If you find this place somewhere else other then church then I don't see the problem. In the end it is the individual who decides what they are and what they believe in.
