Well Wiccans can also be referred to as "Witches" because some Wiccans are witches but not all witches are Wiccan. (For example, all Nazis are German but not all Germans were Nazis. That is just an example, I'm not comparing Wiccans to Nazis).

Second of all, when you are referring to someone who practices the religion of Wicca, you refer to them as 'Wiccan', not 'Wicca'. Wicca is the religion, a Wiccan is someone who practices the Wiccan religion.

To answer your question: If you are Wiccan and someone refers to you as a "devil worshiper" or "gothic" simply and calmly explain to them that as a Wiccan, your religion does not even believe in the existence of the devil, let alone do you worhsip any such deity as "Satan" or the "Devil" since you do not believe in "Satan" or the "Devil". Simply explain the core values of your religion. Explain that your religion is based on respecting nature and respecting others. It is based on helping yourself and others, and bettering yourself and your life WITHOUT harming others. You might wish to tell them about the Wiccan form of the "Golden Rule" ... The rule of three. Meaning whatever you do comes back to you times three. If you do something good, you are rewarded three times, if you do something wrong, it will come back to you three times. Just explain the values and explain that you do not even believe in (let alone worship) the devil. I would also explain that the Wiccan religion respects all other religions.

If these people are still ignorant, then just try your best to ignore them knowing that you are more inteligent and open minded than they are. The more informed you are about this subject, the more you can explain the truth and get rid of the rumors.

I have fun with it.

It rarely happens--I live in a very liberal area, where there are enough active pagans that most people at least know we exist and have some vague idea that we're "nature worshippers or something like that." But sometimes I'll be wearing a pentacle and get rude comments from someone on the bus, or something like that.

I am a witch, and don't mind being called that. Nobody calls me "goth;" I wear more tie-dye than black. If they call me devil worshipper, I generally accuse them of belonging to a zombie cult--you know, that one that worships the guy who was killed and came back to life. (They certainly act like they want to eat people's brains.)

If the person seems honestly curious, and maybe a bit nervous, I'm careful in how I answer, and let them know the basics of my religion. I'll answer questions, and let them know that while they might not *like* my religion, it's a religion, like any other.

If they're just being rude jerks--they already know what Wicca is, and just want an excuse to publicly denounce someone as a "sinner"--I turn it back on them, tell them what I think is wrong with their religion (which is plenty), and try to engage them in bible-verse arguments... because I can *shred* them with their own book if they sit still long enough.

Usually, they run away before that part.

I'm not Wiccan but I am a Witch. I don't take offense when someone calls me a Witch cause, well, that's what I am. Goth chick is usually thrown around by ignorant types who want to downplay what others believe in order to make themselves feel superior...I ignore that, as those people are not worth the time nor the energy of worrying about. The people who call me a devil worshipper I also ignore cause most times those are religious fanatics who cannot be reasoned with. I'm not going to change their minds, so trying to talk to them would be another waste of time and energy. I'd got better things to do.

Then again I just have a gift of not giving a flying rat's *** what people think.

I am not in the Wicca religion but I have read about its ways to understand it more. People are quick to judge what they don't understand and not part of their beliefs. Wicca from what I perceived is more of a nature loving religion and they respect all of nature. They are not devil worshipers and the ones that try to act like they are by practicing this religion are just buying into the myth. Yes they do spells and have potions and that is no different than being baptized in holy water. Or drinking wine and saying it is Christ's blood and eating that little wafer and saying it is the body of Christ. Isn't it also in the Bible to not judge and that is exactly what everyone does when they come across something that they do not approve of. Very hypocritical.

First off, I don't openly flaunt my Wiccan ways. There are enough people out there shoving religion down others throats. Being Wiccan is about yourself not trying to change others to our views. If they call you a devil worshiper you can tell them that you don't believe in devils. If they call you a witch, be proud of it. And if they call you a 'goth' tell them you are not old enough to have anything to do with sacking the Roman Empire (who knows that might get them to read a book).

first of all someone refers to you this way - remember that the person is ignorant and has obiously never made any reseach of the subject, dont let it get to you, simply explain the belief has no connection with evil. - most people would stil think your lying but your just doing your part. if they keep comming back to you ask for them to be blessed with wisdom and an open mind.

I don't. It's their problem if they want to judge.
I know what I believe is the oppositte of evil, it's good in all it's form and more importantly is respect. I'm not gonna get caught up in people's ignorance. I respect their opinion even if I don't share it, perhaps one day they will too.

ignore them.

they are under a general manipulation and are beyond our help. they don't understand much of what they see or hear and if you ask them to point out 2 diffrences between a "witch" and a "gothic" they won't be able to answer.

be proud of what u are and what u do.

peace

I only tell people who I know won't be offened or judgemental. If you express your beliefs in public you have to be prepared to be heckled like a bad comic, no matter what those beliefs are.

Consider the source. ; )

If they say they'll pray for you, tell 'em you'll cast a spell in their name and see who has more success ; )
