Good question. Particularly since God told us quite plainly about the punishment for sin. Genesis 2:16-17 clearly states that Adam's punishment for disobedience would be death. At Genesis 3:19 we find the fulfillment of this punishment: "In the sweat of your face you will eat bread until you return to the ground for out of it you were taken. For dust you are and to dust you will return."
Where was Adam before he was created? Nowhere. He did not exist. To what did he return? To non-existence.
What is the punishment for disobedience according to God? What did he tell Adam? Eternal torment and torture? Or death?
How do we punish our children, just as you asked? By holding their little hands in a 350 degree oven for fifteen minutes? If we cannot conceive of doing such a thing to our children, how in the world can we conceive of a God of love torturing people in fire, brimstone, anguish and unrelenting pain for billions and billions and billions of years? Indeed!! For all eternity!! Are we more compassionate - more humane - than the God who created us?
Of whom are we reminded when we think of sadistic torture, blinding pain and unimaginable suffering? God? or Satan?

God will not burn people in hell forever - who lives longer those who burn in hell forever or those who live in heaven forever? The Bible specifically states that there will be no more sin and sinners and Satan so they can't be somewhere in the universe burning forever and ever.
"So shall it be in the end of this world. The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of fire." Matthew 13:40-42. "The word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day." John 12:48.
Sinners will be cast into hellfire at the great judgment day at the end of the world?not when they die. God would not punish a person in fire until his case was tried and decided in court at the end of the world. Nor would God burn a murderer who died 5,000 years ago 5,000 years longer than one who dies and deserves punishment for the same sin today.
"Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it." Isaiah 47:14. "And I saw a new heaven and a new earth." "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." Revelation 21:1, 4.
God will recreate a new world where no trace of the former evils of this world will be seen.
Yes, indeed, the Bible specifically teaches that hellfire will go out and that there will not be left "a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it." The Bible also teaches that in God's new kingdom all "former things" will be passed away. Hell, being one of the former things, is included, so we have God's promise that it will be abolished.
Is God a Torturer?
If God tortured His enemies in a fiery horror chamber throughout eternity, He would be more vicious and heartless than men have ever been in the worst of war atrocities. An eternal hell of torment would be hell for God also, who loves even the vilest sinner.

How will he punish us? He will not have to. We will soon run out of energy, and our way of life will come to a stop. Greed will be our down fall. We nee to ask; "How much is enough?" Do We need so much earthy items to be happy?
I never punished my children. I spoke to them in a voice they could understand. Both turned out to be good people. If we listen we will hear the voice, and understand what it is saying.

That is a tough question that is hard to answer. The book Case for Faith by Lee Strobel does a very good job of answering this question. I'm afraid I cannot summarize it from memory.
On thing to consider is this: If you freely chose NOT to accept Jesus lord and master of your life while you are living, why would you want to spend the rest of eternity with Him??

We are not His children, though, until we accept His plan for salvation. To become His, I acknowledged that I was a sinner and confessed my sins repenting of them (turning away). I acknowleged that Jesus is the son of God and that He died for me. I asked Jesus to come into my life and sve me. He did! At that moment I became a child of God. Adopted. An heir to the kingdom. I was always a creation but was not His child until that wonderful moment.

Because of God's love for the whole world he sent His Son to die for our sins. What love God had to send His only Son to die for my sin debt. Now the ball is in our court. Do you accept God's love or reject it. If you reject God's love and free gift then it was you who turned away from His love. You told God even without saying it, that you want no part of Him or His Son. So your punishment will be great and thats eternal speration from God and Jesus in a place called Hell. Sometimes God even punishes His children when we have strayed from fellowship, but thats only to correct us. Not sure if you have kids, but if you punish them its because you love them, not hate them. You want to see them get back on track. Well same for God.

No!!! If you have accepted Jesus as your personal Saviour - then He would have save you from all the punishments of God.
Jesus has been punish by God on behalf for all man-kind and you accept Him as your Saviour then God would NEVER EVER punish you for the sin you have committed.
Or else it is consider as double jeopardy!!!

It seems God is so vain and vindictive that if you do not stroke it's ego by worshiping it in a highly proscribed manner, it tortures you for eternity in everlasting fire. Now that sounds like a highly disturbed creature that is hardly worthy of worship or respect
