Yep. So your teeth can stay in place.

I am not sure of why you are wearing a retainer prior to getting braces. The only situation that I have heard of similar occurance is when a orthodontist is trying to correct the arch of mouth or something similiar. Trying to change the shape for some reason. Even then they do not use a traditional retainer but some sort of stretching device.

Please clarify your situation as to why you are wearing your retainer prior to braces.

I have had my braces off for around 3 years and still wear my retainer every night. I dont want to risk having to get braces again.

The thing you wore before the braces was probabley a SPACER which may look like a retainer because its a molded plate with a wire. They will probabley tighten your braces every 2 weeks or so and that will pull all of your teeth into alignment eventually. You will need to wear a retainer afterward.

most people don't need retainers before they wear braces.

The whole idea of a retainer is to retain the position of the teeth when you are happy where they are, so it would seem pointless to retain your teeth in a position that you arn't happy with, which is the whole point of the braces.. to move your teeth into a nice position.

Then you need retainers to keep them in the good position and if you don't wear them or when you stop wearing them your teeth will want to move back where they were.

Find your retainer soon or it may not fit properly. Retainers after braces is a very common practice. Call the dentist in the morning and have your retainer replaced if you cannot find it in 2 days or less. Good luck and I'm sure it will show up.

Retainers are very important, and yes, you will need to wear them for a while after your braces are removed.

I had braces when I was a kid, and I never wore my retainer after the braces were taken off. My straight, perfect teeth are now crooked as hell, and I wish I'd been smarter and worn the damn thing.

Yes you do need to wear retainers after wards. Its very important to do so as it prevents your teeth from going crooked again.

I had braces for a year and soon after I got my retainers. If you stop wearing them for a while and put them on later you'll find that it hurts like hell so wear them ever day.

In the US we were retainers after braces. Braces will also probably fix those two front teeth. You shouldn't have to worry about miss placing your old retainer because they will remold one after you get braces off.

Yes, you will have to wear the retainer after the braces as well.

ya.. retainers are vey imp! else.. ur tooth will be back again in its earlier position! and there is one more facility now.. its another kind of braces.. u have to wear it for 5 years after one year of the braces.. i mean it is invisible and it will be fixed behind ur teeth that is from canine to canine! u can wear it for ur entire life.. u will never feel it.. i think it is thousand times better than the retainers!
