The round trip ticket to germany costs $1000 and the one way costs $3400! I dont know when i will return, so i want to save money on the plane ticket, and buy a ticket once i find out when i want to come back. thanks!
Can they make it difficult for me to return on the same airline if i cancel the return part of the round trip ticket, or if just dont show up?

Check the conditions on the $1000 ticket first to see how long it is valid-- it may only be good for a return within 45 days. This information is available on the airline website if you look.

If you were to buy a round-trip plane ticket, I believe the airline would determine your return date for you. In that case, you would have to buy a direct flight plane ticket when you return from your detination.
