What a great question unless you are suffering from a bout of hiccups right now. There are millions of "cures" for hiccups but very few are effective. Hiccups are caused by spasms in the diaphragm, a big muscle that lies under the lungs and helps us breathe. Sooner or later, the muscle will fatigue and relax.

Some more popular remedies include holding your breath, drink a glass of tepid water while holding your breath, allowing a teaspoon of granulated sugar to dissolve under your tongue, ...or

BOO! sometimes a sudden fright will make them go away.

drink a glass of water from the other side of the rim. this means you need to bend forward and put you top lip on the opposite side of the cup, and start drinking. As you drink, you will need to bend forward more and more, so do this standing up. Eventually, your head will be hanging almost completely upside down. This sounds hard, but it really isn't. Try it, it works every time!! I have been doing it for years, it's never failed.

You have to be drinking a glass of water while you hiccup. Once you swallow the water while you hiccup at the same time, it goes away.

Thing that works for me every time is to slowly sip some water. Continually sip it until hiccups disappear :)

Something sour....lemon juice works best. also you could take a drink of something ...water... and hang your head upside down while swallowing. and lastly if those dont work take a really deep breath and hold your nose too( youll look silly but it does work) for as long as you can. hope at least one of these works for you.
