I don't think humans are always especially bright themselves. However, Jesus sets Christians free from sin, he uses the sheep/shepard analogy to mean he is our shepard, he watches over us, protects us, rules over us.

His reference to sheep has nothing to do with the intelligence of the sheep but more in the relationship between the Shepherd and the sheep, and the way sheep rely on the Shepherd to guide them and protect them from wondering away and doing things that are dangerous and could get them hurt or killed. Sheep are still free to roam the hills and wander away which they do quite frequently (if you have ever been around a sheep) This is why most sheep herders have Sheep dogs to help keep them on the trail and in the pack. A sheep is also a very docile creature that does not have the ability to defend itself. The Shepherd is there to protect. In the bible Jesus tells of a story of the lost sheep and when the shepherd finds the little lamb he breaks its leg. Then the Shepherd carries the lamb the whole time while it's leg heals. This sounds cruel but this teaches the lamb not to leave the Shepherds side and to become dependent on the shepherd. Very much the same way he expects us to depend on him as Christian's and allow him to guide and protect us from the ugly things in life.

remember that in those times most of the people we're farmers, or had a few sheep. It's easier to explain something to someone if you talk out of his environment . Good shepherds only had to start walking and his sheep would follow. It's easy to understand trust in the Lord if you understand the trust those sheep had for their shepherd.

I am glad I am His sheep. Even though I am not bright and always need Him near me I am glad He is my Shepheard. Did you know when the Sheep wonders to far away and doesn't wanna listen that the Shepheard will take that sheep and hobble him and carry him. What a place to be in near the heart of My Saviour. So if ya ask me sheep are smart, they just wanna be near the Shepheard.

As the world says we follow blindly! And if I'm a sheep, a stupid
sheep, that is blind, that is awesome!
We are called sheep, because we are followers. We are to
be servants to God and Man. Sheep obey. Goats do their own thing!

Jesus Christ set Christians free so that they can serve Him and be joint heirs with Him in His Father's Kingdom. All Christians are sheep because they have only one Shepherd who is Jesus Christ. They hear His voice and obey Him.

He said "come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, I will give you rest for my yoke is easy and my load is light". Again the freedom we have is the freedom to serve Him. It is the Holy Spirit that can make you understand.

May the Lord open your heart.

This is an analogy. Sheep need a guide and a helper. In the same way, I need the Lord for salvation and grace. This does not discount my intelligence.
