France and Turkey have the right idea. Religion should play no part in schools. Schools should be for general education.
Church leaders demand religious teaching in schools but why are they seeking that and not teaching religion through their church? (A) It would cost them a lot of money. (B) They would only get their own believers. (C) They seek to force their religion on others and indoctrinate them.
If religion is to be taught it should cover all religions and above all else teach tolerance of other peoples religions and beliefs.
There is a slight problem with prayer in that of course Muslims have set prayer times so they and anyone else that needs to pray should be given somewhere Private to go to do so where it will not impact on others.

As long as a person is not forcing their religion upon others, a person should feel free to practice whatever religion they choose whenever and wherever they choose to do it. If that means saying a prayer in school, then whatever. I understand the whole separation of church and state thing. I don't want my government telling me, "Hey, you have to become *such and such religion. If you aren't that, then you'll face consequences." No, I don't think so. That is what makes America great, the right to choose, the right to be whomever you want. However, what I don't understand is wanting to throw kids out of school for saying a little prayer. Forcing all the kids to say a certain prayer in a public school, now that would be wrong. But an individual kid saying an individual prayer or having a Bible. How is that hurting anyone? I'm pretty open-minded, so if you care to enlighten me.... But to me, this sounds a bit like Communism.
That being said, I do not feel that any single religion has the right to target individuals and tell them that their religion is wrong. I get so stinking mad when religious groups come banging on my door and then won't go away! I have a very ill baby daughter on oxygen, the whole deal, and when I'm in the middle of something with her, I do NOT have time for interruption! I have resorted to rudeness on many occasions. So to those of you who do that, if a person says that yes, they go to church, that they are Methodist or Catholic or Baptist or Muslim or Jewish or whatever or even No, they aren't religious and no they are not interested... then GO AWAY!!!

Religion is in school, The question is which one should be!
Our schools used to have Christianity as its bases, in fact the reason the founding fathers of this nation established School for all was so that everone could read the bible. They knew that unless people had self control, respect for each other and the laws of the land, no police force or military would be able to control them.
Today, human secularism is the religion taught.
What a great religion that is:
There is no God that you will have to be accountable to. Once you die your gone. Your just a complex accident of nature.
There is no absolute right or wrong, so do whatever you think is right, or feels good. Explore life to its extremities, free sex, drugs...
So you got pregnant just kill the tissue growing inside of you because just like you it's just an accident of nature, no different then an ant or a mouse or for that matter a cancer.
Teachers or classmates tick you off well maybe there just an accident too so..

The Christian attempts to put prayer into schools run directly counter to biblical teachings. Jesus said prayer should be a private affair devoid of public display: "And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room (or closet.) and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret..." (Matthew 6:5-6 RSV). Biblicists violate this on a regular basis and have no intention of correcting their behavior. They demand that evolution be taken out of the curriculum. They demand parochial school receive voucher programs so that they may collect public funding. Christians continuously pray in public, IE: churches, street corners, schools, courts, etc. yet all the while they never stop to think this is in direct violation to the god they pray to.

Religion should not be in public school because of the diversity. It's a hot topic and should be left to the parents and families. However, if someone wishes to pray, they should be allowed to pray. That's just life and people should learn to deal with it.

You currently DO have the right to pray in public schools.
(It's part of the freedom of speech)
Whether or not "religion" should be in them is a completely different question.
I think the deterioration of the fabric of our society can be directly pinpointed by the separation of church and state. However, I do believe in the freedom of religion, too. So, there would be no way to incorporate the two beliefs. Unless of course, students were given the option to study any religion that they wanted to.

Most religions are already in the public schools and are greatly accepted.
The only religion that is NOT allowed in schools and is greatly rejected is Christianity.
Why???
Here is what God's word says.
Luke 21:17 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake.
In His Service,
Ray

Everyone already has the right to pray in school. What isn't right is forcing children to pray.

I think that prayer should be allowed in school. What about my right TO pray! Read the Declaration of Independence. It says that a country based on God. "UNDER GOD" If we don't get God back in the world I am afraid of what will happen.
