Do not give your baby raw apples -- it is a huge choking risk. I would say the same for pears and a nine month old -- though very ripe ones can be easier. I started giving my baby pears at about 12 months -- the skin is fairly soft to chew (as opposed to apples) and again -- if they are very soft it is easy to deal with.

Also I have found it less scary re: choking to use string cheese and not cubes of cheese. Just separate it into strands.

Good luck with the bananas -- what a mess.

Peas -- if your kids is first eating whole foods -- I would mash them very slightly -- just to get rid of that round choking hazard shape.

Have fun!

You should be able to just give them to your baby like that. My son loved to get whole crackers around that age! He was so happy that we actually gave him the whole thing! And it helped him learn to take bites with his teeth. I would steer clear of raw apple and pear pieces though. They're still a bit hard for baby. You can try the jarred ones from gerber though. Or you can poach a whole apple or pear (core it first) in water until it becomes soft, then cut it up for baby when cool. Another good one, is small bits of shaved meats. Turkey or roast beef from the deli. And for the veggies I still use frozen ones that are cooked in the microwave. It's easy to portion out what baby will eat, and not spoiling the rest!

Have fun!! Keep lots of bibs around, and try to cover the floor with news paper! :-)

A nine month old is pretty adept at chewing so, as long as you break most things into small enough pieces so that they don't choke, it should be fine.

I wouldn't give your nine month old pieces on apples and pears because they are a little on the hard side. Give them apple sauce, and pear sauce instead.

First off. do not give your baby ....rice cakes! Big choking concern!! I do not understand your question....you sound like you have a nice variety already...mix veggies with orzo (Rice-shaped pasta) apple sauce and small cubed fruits with the rice cereal or other baby cereal.....you sound like a good Mom already....good for you! Ask the pediatrician, too, if you have dietary concerns..........
