Usually a project estimator's job is to perform calculations and draw an accurate guess of about how much a project will cost, or how much time it will take, or how much of what materials are needed. It all depends on what the estimator is estimating.

Estimating the costs associated with producing the project. It might be a good idea if you knew Cost Accounting. I would also be a good idea if you were able to aquire or create a Bill of Materials. Do not forget to include esitmates of total plant resources aka overhead to the project estimate.
