Hi guys, My best friend had a bad breakup with a guy about a year back. She went into depression after that and even had to be hospitalised. Today she says she has moved on, but a few days back when I spoke to her I realised that she has a deep rooted fear for failure still firmly in her mind. She has become very negative and doesnot want to get into any relationship as she fears for failure. I want to get her out of this depression, I want to bring back the same confidence she had before. Please help me!!!

her confidence will not return quickly....it takes time.
She has been hurt and therefore has to HEAL...and the only thing that will heal her is time....
also, if she has been hospitalized, maybe she might need some outside counselling for support.
When i think back to my heartaches, ONLY TO FIND A BETTER, NICER GUY later, I cringe and laugh at the same time. I wish I could emphasize to your friend that if it did not work out, it is because it was NOT meant to work out and GOD HAS OTHER PLANS FOR HER...as time goes on, she will feel better.
When she does get into another relationship (which, of course, she does not want right now), she will wonder how she stayed stuck on that person for so long... good luck, Be supportive. You sound like a very good friend.

I'm dealing with the same only the spouse died 2 years ago. I sent a letter with a line from a poem I wrote;

Barren leaves whence golden leaves once fell bursts new life....

I told him to put his memories in a box (most of his pictures around the house) and move on or die waiting for a past that will never come.

By the way.... it worked.

Time will heal all wounds, but the next best thing is a ladies trip. Take a trip to brazil, the carribean, or cancun. You have to take her somewhere she can have tons of fun and not think of him. Then, when you get home, hit a few clubs, church, anywhere to meet a few new faces. The gym is a good place for the ladies. Guys will horde to a woman. But time will eventually heal her wounds.

Honey, you can't do that for your friend. She will have to be strong enough to do it for herself. Consider this: she needs time to heal and besides, she's getting lots of attention from you. Just listen and offer to go out with her. If she doesn't want to go, go anyway. Pretty soon, she'll understand that her "depression" isn't worth losing friends and staying home. Good luck.
