Get him some tickets to his favorite football teams game. He would probably love that. Christening A nice cross for the baby.

As for the 12 year old, I would consider sports-related things -- soccer balls, footballs, etc., or even there might be a simulated game that they can play. (I know you do not want to buy computer games, but that might be one option.). You might also want to consider taking him to an actual game (on or near the birthday), which might make a great impression on him. As for the 1 year old's christening, I recently attended one, where the majority of the gifts were savings bonds. They are a good idea because they will mature when the child is an adult and their cost is 50% of their face value. I recently know someone who was given the gift of becoming the child's godparent and he is giving the child $1000 each year on the child's birthday (commencing on the date of the baptism) until the child turns 18 -- in this way, he feels that he is giving the child a head start on a college fund.
Good luck!

Computer games are expensive, so how about a blockbuster gift card, he can choose the movie or game that he wants. As far a christening gift, babies or 1 year olds can't understand or appreciate much since they're to young. I've always found that the parents appreciate a savings bond. Hope this helps.

Outside of the usual toys or gift certificates, why not include something more personal to them. Being a preteen he may not appreciate physically in front of you but its something that he'll keep hidden from all and look at when he's alone. Write him a letter telling how glad you are he's your nephew, grandson, best friends son, etc. Tell him how great is is at soccer or cricket or math. Tell him how you've watched him grow as a person and you think he's just a fantastic boy. You get the idea.
Just something personal and special alongside a toy or outfit to show you care.
You can do the same for a baby's christening. Write a letter to the baby telling how special he is, how wanted he/she was. What a special day it was and just how much he/she is going to add to life. You're happy that you are included in the celebrations. etc.
Or you could make up little bits of paper..roll them up like a scroll and tie a ribbon around them. Place in very tiny bottle or basket or jar with a decorative ribbon. They will look back on this and think how special a person you were to create something like this for them.

For the 12 year old, you might want to find him something that introduces him to another item that is not sports related. How about a beginning guitar and a DVD of lessons? It gives him an introduction to something outside of sports and yet interactive. It might just open a whole new world for him.
For the christening: something that will be his for the long term, a Bible, maybe a framed copy of his christening certificate, a cross either to wear eventually or to hang in his room.

How about getting the 12 year old a book collection that he can keep and hopefully will be worth something when he is older, he could also pass it down to his own children one day, there are many book collections out there for that age range.
The 1 year old boys Christening, I think Premium Bonds are still a very good buy in this day and age, and who knows when he is old enough to understand them, they may well of earned him quite a lot of money in the Bank, all thanks to you!!
Good luck searching for something !!

For the 12-year-old boy, try getting him a Blockbuster gift card... he might appreciate that more than anything since HE is in control of how he spends it.
Also, sorry, but I am totally braindead about the christening. =( Sorry.

For the 12 yr old I would give him money to buy what he wants. The 1 yr old I would buy a savings bond. And If The 1 yr old is going to receive a gift every year I would continue to buy a bond.

1) gift cards to places like Toys R Us. Kids are really getting into receiving the gift cards. They can save up to get something they really want, or they can go right away to get something. If giving a gfit card is not to your tastes, add in a book on something that he likes.
2) not a clue....have not been around babies in a long time maybe a gift card for the parents to get him something that he needs or could use.
