I think the only way to become religious is to understand what the different faiths are about. You can do this by talking to priests etc... You will know when you have found the right place and beliefs for you. No one can tell you which one to choose as everyone has their own reasons for believing what they believe and following a religion. Some people don't even belong to a specific religion but still believe in God.

God is imaginary, so if you want to believe in something that doesn't exist then it doesn't matter which religion you choose.

Before my wife died religion to me was something that some believe in and some don't. I never really thought about it, but if push came to shove, I would have probably said I would like to think that there is a God, a heaven etc...

When I was 28 years old my wife died. This affected me big time. I am still on medication nearly 10 years later. As time has passed, if one thing has become absolutely crystal clear to me, I mean so clear I would stake my own life on it. It is that there is no God, no heaven and no hell. When you die, you die and that is it, end of story.

If something bad has happened and you are looking for help, religion is not the way to go, because in the long run you will be living a lie.

Your first task is not saying you want to be religious but to ask yourself what is the purpose of life, whether any of the religions in this world can answer that question. Then do research and study all the religions in this world (if you don't have time, then study the teaching of the main religions in this world such as Islam, Christians and Judaism).

If you want to believe in God, then your task is not about finding which god to choose but in finding the answer to this question: Is there God? If there is God, which one is the real God? Many main religions teach that there is only one God.

If there are many "gods", then logically each "gods" will want to assert his authority in administering this world. In effect it will cause havoc and most probably our world with its planets etc have gone long time ago because of war between gods.

Our task is to find out the truth about life. Do we just wake up, eat, go to work, sleep and then die? Or is there more to it?

The best one is the one which teaches you pure unselfish and unconditional love of God and all his creation. I believe that if you are sincere enough and willing enough to listen to God and understand what he is trying to tell you then you will not find any better religion than Vaisnavism which is an ancient root of Hinduism.

It is an extremely difficult process to know who God is and What he wants. Just as you cannot become a brain surgeon without going to school, college, university and taking instructions and tests from someone who already knows brain surgery then you will also require someone to help you along your path in understanding God. There will be many choices to make and many areas of misunderstandings - you will need someone who is a practitioner to guide you along your way.

One of the other answers stated that Christianity is the most popular...... actually, that's incorrect. As far as what is the most popular religion (world wide), it's the Catholic religion. However, that shouldn't be your basis for how you choose to fellowship. I would go to different churches, temples, etc... and see what tickles your fancy. As far as I'm concerned, believing in a higher power regardless of what people have named him or her. Is good enough. The majority of the spiritual books out here be it the Bible, Koran, or others... all have common threads. They teach much of the same things, the rest of the interpretations are different.... thus the variety of beliefs and religions. Find what you can believe in, for yourself. If you choose a religion based upon what others think and or do I don't know if you can truly say that, you believe.

I agree with Melc. You can't just pick and choose religion. Why don't do something that will show you which is the right way to go.
Pray that God would show you what is the truth. Pray that somehow the true God would hear you. I know the truth, but by sharing it with you you may think that I am just being bias. So I think you should seek and speak to God for yourself. Go on I dare you to give it ago.

First, read about all the Words religions (ex Orthadox Christianity, Protastant, Islam, Buddism, Rastafariansm etc) and take the truth from each and belive in what is true, theres sooo much to learn in life, but stay away from those really corrupt ones like Catholics and anything promoting Idolitry and Satanism.

First you must believe in God and then you should read as much as you can about the differant faiths and ask questions. It is not a simple question and you will realise that there is much to find out.
I made a similar search some time and after some time became a muslim.
God willing you will reach the same decision.
Finally which God? There is only ONE

Simple answer.

The only "religion" best described as faith, is Christianity.
Why???
Because the Lord is calling out to us AND sacrificed his only son to relieve us of our sins.
No other belief in Gods can claim this. ALL other religions claim to be SEEKING their Gods.
Also being a Christian has a lot of "miracles", big and small.
Where do the other religions stand on that item?
They don't and cannot.
Besides, a born again Christian is not religious, just faith-full.

You either believe or you don't - you can't "become religious and believe in god".

As for organized religions, they all suck and prey on the weak and ignorant; all they are,in the US at least, is a business to make tax exempt money.

If you feel you have to be spiritual and believe in a higher power, do it in the comfort and safety of your own home, alone - If there is a god (which I doubt) they don't require you to go to church or belong to an organized religion.
