I heard that you shouldn't spay a dog when she is in heat/on her period. So before I spay her, how do I deal with her period? Do I put a diaper on her?

My vet also made me wait until my dog was out of heat before spaying her...Go to the pet store and buy Seasonals they are like underwear for dogs and you put feminine pads inside just like for people it works really well also you can take an old pair of underwear and just cut a hole for her tail and put a pad inside to absorb the menstrual fluid.

Ask your vet if he/she will spay your dog while in heat. Most won't but some will. The morning of the surgery the vet should be able to tell you if she is in heat. If she starts actively bleeding you may want to put a doggie diaper on her and reschedule the appointment for 2-3 weeks out.

She will prolly just chew off a diaper and you would have to make a tail hole. She can be spayed before she first comes into heat. If she is in heat now, expect it to last 1 to 2 weeks. Kennel her, put her outside, restrict her to a room with no carpet and prepare to wipe up drippings a lot.

Yes, they sell them at pretty much all pet store. You can't have them spayed while they're in heat. Lay down paper and prepare to be annoyed. The moaning will drive you to the brink of insanity. When it's over get her to the vet immediately. Otherwise you may have to deal with the next cycle as well.

You can spay a cat that is in heat, so a dog could be. Thats what my vet says.

Yes, they make diaper-type pants that you can put dog pads in. They're available at most pet stores. They can be messy, and I've found that a panty liner cut in half works better than the dog pads.
