hi all. some dads just dont let their little kids win at any game even if they just 3 or 4. why? it helps them gain confidence etc but why are some men just selfish in that way. any one noticed that? i knw its different when they are 9-14, coz they should knw and accept in games and sports events taht u cant always win, but age 2,3,4? what do u think?

Simple answer: Some people (women too) are very competitive. Losing is just not an option when winning is a sure thing.
Controversial answer: Believe it or not, men and women are instilled with instincts that derived from hundreds or thousands of years ago. The most familiar of these instincts is that of the hunter/gatherer. Men dominantly take over this role subconsciously (hence men loving to hunt, mow the lawn, etc). A part of hunting is the kill. It's the winning of the hunt. Its going after the goal. The goal is to hunt for the animal and bring it home. Today, that can easily be translated into games. People have a goal and want to reach it.

Well, I was going to say that we're trying to increase our position in the herd and guarantee mating rights, but then I read the blurb...
My vote is not so much about primitive behaviour... more a very modern insecurity... society is achievement based now, and there's no guarantee that adulthood will bring an ascription of status- nothing to prop us whatever happens! There are so many things we feel we're losing out on as well... I reckon those dads are taking an easy win to salve their pride, even though it's been wounded in other contexts.
Another aspect of it may be that the men want their children to grow strong- maybe they feel that the child should be strong enough by themselves, and that letting them win isn't doing the child a favour in the long run? Of course, they could use this as an excuse whilst secretly nursing their bruised egos...

Not all men are like that, but the reason that most of them are is that, the harder you challenge someone, the quicker they will learn; or in most kids cases, lose interest and move on.

this afternoon is my daughters sports day, they dont do any competitive sports at all.....what the hell that about? Everyone should be taught to compete. we have a nation of dossers and lay abouts right now and this is down to the "it doesn't matter if you lose" attitude.

It goes back to the primitive instinctual base of survival. Man has to be the best in everything he does therefore we have competitiveness. It's the nature of the beast.

because no one wants to be looked at as a looser that's why you will see some parents "not all of them"yelling at the coaches officials etc if they think there kid is going to look bad in front of the other parents and kids
