My girlfriend is a great king's descendant, while I'm an ordinary peasant, as far as I know. What about you?

1059 AD - a nobleman from what is now southern France...before that, I can trace our family name back to possible tribal origins from around 0 AD, but no specific names.

I might be able to go farther back through different ancestors, which include English nobility and Italian peasantry, but a thousand years ain't bad.

When I started tracing my ancestry, I only wanted to trace it out of the US to another country. Finally on one side I did trace it back to the beginning of Rhode Island in the 1600 and then to England.

It is important to have all the documents yourself and not rely on the research of others. But that gets expensive as you do research outside the US.

I think the ordinary peasant stories are more interesting! The United States is a culmination of all those stories!

I've found about 8200 of my ancestors. Three of my lines are waiting for me to make a trip to Europe to find the records that haven't made their way to a larger archives yet. I have nobles and peasants, a French butcher escaping the bloody revolution, Swiss lumbermen, a couple of generals (both in France and Prussia), and most of the first settlers of Canada.

My tree includes Guillaume Couture, Victor Hugo, Alinor of Aquitaine, a couple of minor Dutch painters, Louis Riel, the Dionne quintuplets, Celine Dion, Madonna, and if you believe The DaVinci Code then I descend from Jesus Christ through Charlemagne via Catherine de Baillon.

They say that anybody with either Irish or Scottish "blood" can trace through royalty. Once you do that, you can trace a strand away back. I have one strand- out of 512?- that traces through British royalty. You probably do also. The other 511 were mostly commoners- apparently small town craftmen and merchants more than peasants.

To my great grandparents in the early 1800's. Both sets came from Europe. One side came from Italy and the other side came
from Slovakia, Hungary and Poland. I haven't been able to go
farther back yet, but someday I will have more time to check out
the earlier ancestors. I have come across some fascinating tales
of one of my ancestors and know its true.
I haven't come across anyone wealthy or famous yet but you
never know. My father came to the USA on the Queen Mary and
I think that is the haunted ship on the western coast. I would love
to see it and go on board with a psychic, if I ever get a chance to
travel to the western states.

I am not a peasant. I can, with absolute certianty, trace back to about 1967. I can't remember anything earlier than that vividly enough to be sure. You actually met this king and are 100% sure of it? If you did not witness it, you can never be sure.

For Hunter, my paternal grandfather's family I can't get anywhere yet, but for Jackson, my paternal grandmother's father's family, I have gone back to 1776, last generation before coming to Canada. Haven't gotten anywhere with her Campbell line from Scotland before her father. For Burse, maternal grandfather, also now gone back to the later 1700's in Kent county England, my grandmother's side also from England goes back now about as far. I work on mine from time to time. I have a toddler so I can't afford it much time lately. I have a scroll that traces the Hunter line back to the original Hunter's of Scotland, but not to a specific person or people.

My husband knows nothing about his family because his lines are blurred for a few reasons.

Depending on standard of proof, 1646 or earlier in that century. But the etymology of my surname might go back to 1223 or the 11th C.
