Fundamentalists believe that Genisis is a true record of what happened at the beginning but I'm looking to see what those who believe in the Bible but regard it as being open to interpretation think.

Does the story really mean that we are born innocent but become sinful as our brains develop and learn more or can the search for knowledge lead us into sin?

BTW: I'm a non-believer.

I have little time for religion or politics, they take up too much of a persons life and in the end there are no conclusions to reach, as there are too many avenues to explore, and life is not long enough for that.

as far as adam and eve are conderned (if they existed) they are supposedly said to have disobeyed.

and if we seen a child take an apple from a tree because it was hungry, would we scold it. (I dont think so).
perhaps eve was hungry, but personally I really don't belive in that story. and if adam and eve were the first man and woman which we all came from, does that mean we are all inbred's.

then theres the betrayal of trust by the clergy all over the world, priests etc sexually abusing children, and I dare say a few women too, while the men worked hard, and then were looked down on, and regardes as horrible people, when they had a pint or a bet, because it was a way to let off steam, besides they had earned it throughout the week, working hard.

you see how much time this can take up, and I'm just answering a simple quesiton.
see you in eden, better still make it sw,eden, i'd enjoy a break.

Your question makes perfect sense and I have to say there is no answer. But we can use logic and common sense to figure it out. We have man and woman (Hybrid) of evolution or creation its up to you.

The story of the fall of man is not a biological one (The brain developing and the search of knowledge) its about the development of Trust, honesty, obedience and love for your father (The creator) who knows something about your environment or state that you are on aware of and since he knows the consequences of those things he gives you a fatherly advice of being careful. The same way you would advice your child or friend about some issues you know the outcome off.

When the fatherly advice is thrown to the wind due to the choice made. You have to stand up and take responsibility for the action. And when you deny even when the facts have been laid down, you make a fool of your self and this foolishness makes you run and hide. Its what you might call and escape mechanism.

And refusing to admit to the actions you have taking leads to an imbalance of things and if not checked leads to a chain reaction of imbalances in nature and this I believe we call sin.

Sin I would say is negative rebellion (remember we have positive rebellion) which after going for along time untreated leads to the death of the inner person and after a while the death of the inner person is shown physically by the outer persons actions e.g. Hatred for all including self.

So the Adam and |Eve story is a figurative of the consequences of what took place before there was CNN, BBC and Fox news.

Adam and Eve's first sin was pride. The thought that if I eat this fruit, I can be like God. That is sheer hubris. Everything else is just an extension of that. We are born to sin, because we are born of the seed of Adam. Sin is our nature.

As for the search for knowledge.:

It depends on why you seek the knowledge.

OH and for those who doubt we all could come from 2 people:

A recent study showed that using statistical models and historical events, we all share a common ancestor as little as 2000 years ago, but no more than 5000 years ago. That is every person on the earth regardless of nationality is related to every other one, somewhere in that time frame. It points out things like The Mongol invasion, the Roman Empire, The Muslim invasion of Europe, and other events and factors as reasons.

I'm also a non-believer and i think that Adam and Eve are a made up story. but to answer your question when they ate the apple they gained knowledge of everything that is sinful.i do think that we are born Innocent but as we grow older and our brains develop more i becomes influenced by others that are around us, those we are around may not always be good role models and that's how we start doing sinful things.

In my opinion,
What they did wrong was eat the forbidden fruit.
God said to them to enjoy it all, enjoy everything I have given to you....BUT do not eat the fruit from this tree in particular.
You can have everything but this.
So instead of appreciating all God gave to them, they, Eve at first took it upon herself to see what the deal was with this one fruit.
They both ate the forbidden fruit after being tempted by Satan in the form of a snake, and Shazaam, they are sinners.
In a biblical sense, they did the one thing they were asked not to, and now all man kind must pay for their sins in some form or another.
I mean come on people you have the world except for the fruit of one garden, how greedy can you be.
Because of this act, we grow old, we get sick, we die, and women have intense labor when delivering a child, etc etc.
I hope it was a damn good apple.

They disobayed God the Creator..

Genisis is the true book and as you mentioned when humab brain develop and learn more and search for knowledge it lead us to sin against God

you know why, even a small achievement leads people to boast and be proud of them self. this small proud leads one day to think oh we are able to any thing in the world and we are more than God.. but the truth is any scientists or any Genius people who lived on earth or going to live on earth know that every body has a limit you cannot escape death, disease, natural disasters, etc.,

you asked this questian as a non-believer, I wish you to believe in the Bible which gives answer to any of your questian if you approach with kind heart.

God bless you

Well God forbid them to eat the apple from the tree, but Eve was manipulated by the snake and tasted it. The snake represents evil (the devil) and the phallic symbol - so when she tastes it, she is visited by the curse of blood - the menstrual cycle and learns about sex. So without her eating the apple, there wouldn't really be a human race. There's a lot of contradictions like there is through out the bible. I think it was God tempting them anyway by saying don't eat from that tree. So was he playing mind games with them? I think basically it's saying there are limitations, and there will be people that will tempt you to do evil things but that you shouldn't, else you will pay the consequences.

Sin isn't doing something "wrong". Sin means "not of God". When people sin they make choices contrary to the will of God. In Genesis Adam and Eve chose to disobey God (sin) by eating the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.

We don't become sinful as we learn or search for knowledge. We become sinful when we first choose to think, say, or do anything that is contrary to God or His will.

Original sin is the concept of man's imperfections of will. Most people of any spirituality or even humanity know right from wrong, whatever their beliefs. Those who do not follow nearly universal moral precepts violate "the rules" of nearly every major religion in the world. We do this out of selfishness, greed, and other lively naked ape characteristics. That is original sin. It gives, "Sorry, I'm only human" a whole new meaning.

The bible is allegorical. It is one of man's beautiful attempts to describe that "which passeth all understanding".

Disobiedience which brought on sin which in turn opened a doorway for our's and God's enemy to enter into our lives.

Before this incident we were once made perfect all needs fulfilled.

Does not matter whether you belive in the bible, mayan or samarian texts (ancient scriptures pre biblical) or stories of old the basic idea is the same.
