Well, depends. If you yourself has an addiction, the best way is to try and stop on your own and if you struggle find professional help. It also depends on the kind of addiction, cause some drugs are more physically addicted and then you will need professional help. But the best thing is to find a support group. They keep you positive and acknowledged your at temps. If you are living with an addict "tough love" is a nice support group that support families living with addicts.

Go to AA & NA find people you can identify with and feel comfortable around. Get phone numbers and use them. Get a sponsor. Do some service work with your home group. As you know this is life threating and we all know we have another run but we do not know if we have another recovery.
If you really want it and follow the path you can stay clean. It's not easy but life will get better.
I will e-mail you. the subject will be coping. If you have questions or just want to talk.

Good Luck...

I can tell you that the only way anything will work is to want it very badly. You need to know that it is what you must do.Sometimes having something in your life to give you a reason to clean up ei: Children, career, spouse or loved one and probably least of all health. It's not easy no matter how you look at it.Even rehab wont work if you're not sure you're ready to quit.Try to think of all of the reasons that you need to quit everyday all day.It worked for me.You must find an interest to fill the void.Something you wish to be good at.

I can tell you what won't work: associating with the same group of people you do drugs or drink with; going to the same places. Find a healthy replacement for the drug, turn away from it and never, ever, do it again. Not ever. Not once. You may need professional help, too. Probably so.

your basically bored.

Get busy with something you love. I would recommend volunteer work for orphans and widows, or travel the world helping other people.

Addiction is just another way of saying i got nothing better to do.

It is a moment by moment struggle. I guess if there was some way you could distract yourself. Find an obsession, become addicted to sometthing less harmful in its place.

Addictions are more common with someone who has an addictive personality. I would try to move my addiction to something else, something healthy. Good luck!
