When I go for my daily walk I notice that my upper thighs tingle and sometimes throb similiar to pins and needles. There is no pain. It only happens when I have been walking for an extended period such as half an hour or more. Is this a process of fat burning? Anyone out there experienced this?

no it is not. But there is a chance that the nerve is being irritated, by spinal column vertebrae,at the spot where it comes out of the spinal cord. That problem could lead to serious consequens. I strongly suggest that you contact an orthopedic medical specialist to make sure that that is not the cause, or to correct the problem. (you do not need severed nerves, unlikely event that that is but a very serious possibility that should be ruled out.).
In other words see a physician soon.
