I can understand why, for practical reasons that manufacturers chill or freeze butter for transport over long distances, but I am told that some butter is frozen for up to 9 months...why is this?

I don't know why the manufacturers do it, but if my mom finds a good deal on butter she'll buy several pounds of it and freeze most of it so she doesn't have to pay high prices for it later.
