while instalation is selected automatic,now i wanna standarised that h/w by partitioning it into diff drives for eg /,/boot,/tmp ect

yes you can resize the partitions after linux installation
here is how

Note that what applied to ext3 partitions apply also to the other types (but i am not sure about NTFS)

yes, but u need a another hard disk first to boot up an OS first. then copy the partition and paste it to the another one. u can borrow one hard disk from your friend.
