I have had both dogs and love the golden retriever. It is very gentle with kids and loves everyone. A lab is more of a guard dog and gets much larger, especially if a male. I have had a couple labs in the past that turned on my kids and bit them. My goldens never have. The golden has longer hair and needs brushed but they are worth it.

Golden Retriever is better. It is easy to take care and it is so lovable and adorable. I am sure you will live this kind of dog. I am not saying that the Labrador is not a good breed of dog but I am just saying that Golden Retriever is better than Labrador.

like asking which is better night or day. Labs are short-haired, lazy dogs and must be exercised (walked) everyday, tend to get fat and hip displacia is an inherited problem that they can get. Easier to care for. Golden retrievers have longer hair which must be brushed more often are more active naturally and healthy dogs easy to train and love children. I"d go for a Golden retriever if it was me.

Goldens are higher maintenance because of the fur and have no brains at all until they're at least two years old. With either breed do your homework on the breeder and spend the money if necessary. Popular breeds are so indiscriminately bred that lots of second-rate dogs are out there. A bad Lab will wind up fat and crabby. A bad Golden will wind up fat and smelly with skin problems when it ages.

they are kinda the same but a golden retriever is so much better. I have a lab and she dont listen very well about staying in the yard we stick her in the fence and she goes under it and jumps over it. All she wants to do it run.

they are both retrievers, so a lot of the traits are going to be the same. my golden is great, and my friends labs are just like him. his hair is longer, but i keep him shaved most of the time. they can also be prone to hip displaysia and ear infections, as with labs. I'd get the golden retriever!

Both are very good family dogs.
Labs are very faithful, high energy, and tend to be very tolerant. On the downside, they LOVE to dig, chew, swim, be 90 pound lap-dogs.

Goldens are good, high energy, smart, and most are tolerant. Their downside is their coats require quite a bit of upkeep, and for some, they are too high energy, which is why they are good at dog sports like flyball, etc.

Personally, my favorite is the lab. They have short coats, they do shed, but you don't have as much upkeep with the coat as with a golden.
Plus, you can always train your lab to dig only in certain "legal" areas, and give them "legal" chew toys.

Good luck!

Both are great family dogs, but the labrador's fur is easier to take care of, as it's short, whereas Goldenretriever have long fur

Retrievers are high maintenance because of their fur, but make very nice photogenic pets.

Labs are also fun to be with and intelligent, and they are less fuss to keep in the house.

We have a wonderful choclate lab/Weimeraner mix. Both are good dogs, and good with children, but I can't imagine a better dog than Molly.
