If those were the only two choices of locale, then for sure it'd be the slums. Jesus spent a great deal of time hanging out with and ministering to the "unlovables" in society. Sick, lame, blind, poor, prostitutes, tax collectors, lepers, etc. He would be the same today as he was in his own time.
I'm not Catholic, so I can't really comment upon "the Church" and how far removed it is from the teachings of Christ. As far as "finery and grandeur" are concerned, there's nothing wrong, per se, with these things. But if that's all there is, if the focus is solely on the external (rather than the heart and how it responds toward God and the Holy Spirit), then there's definitely something wrong. If Jesus went to Vatican City, I have a feeling he'd have a few choice words for those in leadership. He never backed down from the religious leaders of his time...and he was constantly pointing out their tendency toward empty rituals, rather than true heart change. I think he'd do the same now.

Yes I believe they have and I think Jesus would go straight to the slums. Jesus was always the one right in between the poor people, the prostitutes and all other who were not accepted by society or those calling themselves holy. Alone the fact that the church "hates" gays or does not approve with prostitutes instead of helping them maybe find a different job shows how far the church is away from the teachings of Jesus.

Sadly yes. I have a few issues with the Catholic church, although that is my religion. When I think of the people that could be fed with the money that is spent there I wonder what they are thinking.
I think Jesus would stay in the slums and go to the Vatican only to enlighten them and followers as to what God's will really is.

He can come and stay at my flat!
I do think some Churches are in danger of being Pharisaical. I am ambivalent about the whole oppulence thing. I do think the money spent on upkeeping the magnificent Churches/Works of Art could be better spent but it would be a tragedy to lose such culture and history. Of course if the money was spent to wipe out poverty completely then I could definitely reconcile that.

The Roman Catholic church? THAT church? Please, go to the Vatican and see all the opulence and obscenity of wealth, then go to Africa and see the suffering. Jesus was always a champion for the unwanted and unloved, something we have a lot to learn about. Why do people go to "Mass" on Easter and Christmas and only in their finest clothes? Does God check this out? OR does he see what's in our hearts? Good, thoughtful question, kiddo, thanks.

If Jesus comes back today there won't be any more of these places, because He will have come on a white horse and the apocolpse would have happened and there would no longer be the old Heaven and Hell but new ones.

Read the Bible on the Apocalypse.
The Vatican in all its grandeur may have to have a lot of accounting to do.

A very good question. Jesus was very poor His entire life on Earth, I don't believe He would care for the "Lifestyle of the Rich and Famous"...

Many have masked themselves in christianity and are deceiving alot of people. The bible warns us of these things happening. Matt 7 tells us that many will see Jesus in the end and will call on his name knowing that they'll be allowed in heaven and Jesus will reply "Away from me, you worker of iniquity. I never knew you."
Make sure you got it right. Read your bible and pray (without ceasing) so that you won't be deceived.
