It all depends on how much time you want to spend with it.
If you are willing to devote a lot of time to it, a very small dog(ie chihuahua, toy poodle, etc) or a cat would be good.
If you don't want to spend a lot of time with it a rodent like a rat, hamster, guinea pig, etc would be good.
For the lowest upkeep, fish are the best bet. They don't have accidents in the house, they don't make noise, and if they pass away, you can pretty much always just "commit them to the sea".

Good Luck!

Assuming you're asking the question seriously, you need to first figure out what kind of resources (primarily time and money) you have to support your potential pet, then compare that to your interests. A dog will probably need more food (greater expense) than most of your other options, and they need training and attention. A cat would eat less, need less of your time, and not really need training (unless you really want to), but the vet expenses will be similar to a dog. The bottom line is: what do you want, and what can you afford. Also remember that getting a pet is a commitment for the lifetime of that pet, and not the lifespan of your interest in the pet. - g^2

In my opinion the best pet for small house is either fish or hamster...why?if u choose dog..ur dog will get stress easily because of the environment to small so he could not move around (dog loves playing) and worse if u do not walk ur dog...same as cat...

Birds also possible for small house....

Rats - I know most people won't believe this but some of the best house pets I have ever had are rats. As long as they have a reasonable cage with toys to occupy themselves they make great pets. They are intelligent, friendly and inquisitive. As soon as my kids are old enough to want pets they are getting rats.

well fish, turtles, birds ,rabbits can be good pets but they r not that affectionate or playful as a dog if u have a small place then u can opt for small dogs.with fishes n turtles changing the water is a mess n birds n rabbits do a lot of mess so its much better to get a small breed dog.
gud luck take care

Pet rats from a reputable breeder are beautiful and very sociable pets. They are intelligent, clean, loving (mine used to do a mission impossible style escape from his cage and sleep on my chest at night) and interesting additions to any household. Beware of pet store rats as these are bred in droves, have little or no human contact, and are there mainly as snake fodder! Not very nice!

try a lakeland terrier of a jack Russel both small dogs, cheap to feed and they never get ill like other big dogs which are over breed. lakeland and jack Russel's are both good at being kept in for long periods but also love long walks they are very easy dogs to please. Also terriers are brill as a working dog or a pet working dog means to take to the field for hunting, rabbit or fox.

Now, don't go yuck immediately, but how about a rat? I mean the domestic variety of course, not the horrid disease-ridden wild ones. A friend of mine at school had a black and white one and it was really friendly and intelligent - more interesting than a hamster or guinea-pig - and certainly more interesting than a goldfish! How about one of those?

No pet...small houses aren't big enough for any pets. They need room to breath.
