When Christianity promotes smashing small children against rocks?

"O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us. Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones." (Psalm 137:8-9)

I guess Judaism as well, since they also believe in the Old Testament.

Hey, YOU brought it up this time!

Can we please stop searching one another's sacred texts for the most extreme, objectionable passages, and throwing them in one another's faces? It is clear that there are over-the-top comments in all these old documents. They were not written with the idea that people from all over the world, in radically different contexts, would ever read them. And yes, they talked extreme about dealing with their enemies. That was at a time when the most powerful weapon was limited by the thrust of an arm! (Well, maybe there were catapults; I'm not sure about that. But you get my point.)

Old texts must be read in the light of the times in which they were written. That's why it is such a problem today when people of various religions attempt to go "strict" or "fundamentalist" and use these old documents in modern situations. They don't fit! Take the abstractions, the philosophy, the songs and stories, but recognize the context in which it was all written.

Now, can't we be friends?

People are full of hatred when they don't want to accept people who are different from them. So they like to pretend they have knowledge when they have none and twist it into something hurtful.
I wonder if people are so openly hateful towards Muslims in the the streets. If they are truly good Christians or Jews, etc as they claim, then they should learn to respect Muslims and their beliefs.

I'm not a religionist, but doesn't that quote refer to killing children instead of giving them over into a life of slavery (not just killing children for the heck of it)?

Psalms is Jewish poetry, not Christian writings. So I'd say your premise is false, come back when you have a real question. and thanks for the points.
